WILCO IN CONCERT:

Though Wilco always uses the sounds of Americana as their launchpad, they’ve managed to explore a universe of musical possibilities over the past twenty years. With his poetic turns of phrase and endearingly raspy vocals, frontman Jeff Tweedy provides a country heart to their music that always wins over fans at their live performances. While he delivers the earthy grit, the rest of the band soars into the stratosphere, incorporating everything from ambient electronica to Dixieland jazz. But they also know how to rock on epics like “Impossible Germany”, “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart”, and “A Shot in the Arm”. Though ticket buyers never quite know what to expect from these innovative musical adventurers, they know they can count on Wilco to deliver a an electrifying, genre-defying concert experience every time they take the stage on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Frontman Jeff Tweedy formed Wilco out of the ashes of his earlier alt-country band Uncle Tupelo, absorbing most of the lineup to release the new band’s 1995 debut A.M. The group quickly developed a reputation for incorporating experimental elements with their next two albums Being There (1996) and Summerteeth (1999). Despite those sonically ambitious releases, nothing prepared fans for the aural onslaught of 2001’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, which pushed the boundaries of music production and defied genre lines all together. The band’s record label famously refused to release the album, while overwhelming fan support and critical adulation lead to a bidding war that netted Wilco a lucrative recording contract. Their next album A Ghost Is Born (2004) won a Grammy for Alternative Album of the Year. Following several critically acclaimed albums and core additions to the group, Wilco remains a vital and restlessly creative force in both their live concerts and their recorded output, which includes 2015’s secretly released Star Wars.

    Best Monday night ever!

by Thomas on 4/27/23Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center - Huntsville

I have liked Wilco for years but now I love them. This was the best concert I have seen in a long time. The band is tight and they are all amazing musicians. I forgot how much I loved these songs. I had the best time at this show. I would recommend everyone to see them live.

    Underneath the AL Stars

by Ainge on 4/25/23Avondale Brewing Co. - Birmingham

What an incredible evening! Wilco always delivers, but this show felt special. There was a laid back vibe and a wonderful intimacy captured by both the band and the venue. Avondale Brewing Co. was a lovely host that provided a safe and fun environment in which all ages of people enjoyed a fabulous evening of music and fun. Food truck, two bars & excellent sound quality. Plus, all the folks working the event were super friendly! What a night!!

    Great show, bad setup

by Ness on 4/25/23Avondale Brewing Co. - Birmingham

Wilco was great, and musically the show was excellent. Avondale is a great venue, but the experience was ruined by the nasty VIP pit that they had set up preventing most people from getting close to the stage. This is the first time I’ve seen that at Avondale. Hopefully it won’t become a habit.

Excellent show - probably America's best live act in 2023

by jbcatl on 4/25/23Avondale Brewing Co. - Birmingham

Wilco has been around for almost 30 years with various line-up changes. The current group has been together for a while now, and it shows. Their sets are tight, allowing the band to improvise in ways that make the songs feel more "alive" when played live (not the same way every night). The entire band is super-talented, and Tweedy's songwriting skills are as strong as ever with newer tunes fitting right in with songs written over a decade ago. Nels Cline is amazing every night and really Wilco should be on everyone's must-see list. I feel like they are at the top of their game live right now. Avondale Brewing is a great venue, but the usual crowd that shows up is only somewhat engaged in the music and tends to talk over the quieter songs/moments. There was basically an open air cocktail party for the first 3-4 songs before the crowd settled down and actually started paying attention to the band. I guess it's the nature of outdoor shows, especially with the weather as nice as it was the day of this show.

Great experience from the venue staff to the intimate feel of the show. The band was fun and engaging with the audience. Their sound was great and the little jam sessions in some songs were perfection. I can’t wait for Wilco to visit Orlando again!

by M. S. on 4/21/23Hard Rock Live Orlando - Orlando

Second time seeing these guys and I can't wait to see them again. This show was as good or better than the first time I saw them. I love live music and have seen many acts; Wilco ranks in the upper one or two of my list of favorite shows.

    Just wow.

by r. c. on 4/21/23Hard Rock Live Orlando - Orlando

Was over from the UK on holiday and always try and go to a gig whilst I am here. Wilco were absolutely incredible and whilst the whole band are super talented the sound when Jeff plays electric guitar with the other 2 guitarists creates a wonderful noise. Great sound and fantastic vocal performance. Absolutely loved it and cannot wait to see them in the UK later in the year.

    Nearly perfect three show run

by Chef Salad on 4/4/23The Capitol Theatre - Port Chester

I attended all three nights of Wilco's run at The Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY. In a nutshell, it was glorious. That said, I am a huge Wilco fan, but also see many live music performances every year (probably about 60+ shows per year) So, while my Wilco bias is clear, this was TRULY a fantastic set of shows. First, The Capitol is a great venue. Great sight lines, amazing sound, pretty cool history, good facilities. Really, it was terrific. Second, Horsegirl. Just that: HORSEGIRL are great. They opened all three nights and were really excellent. Get their record...see them live. For real. Finally, Wilco. The band just continues to operate at peak levels. The run featured 3 unique sets and every night was an absolute stunner. Some songs that hadn't been featured in years sounded like they were always in the set--solid, great arrangements, excellent playing. Some of the gems from deep in the catalog fit in perfectly with the songs everyone expects and every fan and newbie alike went home happy...every single night. Wilco's sound in the Capitol was nearly perfect. I heard some recordings from back of the theater and they were very good (I was up front all three nights) so I assume sound was great all around. The band was in great spirits and Jeff Tweedy was just...Jeff Tweedy. As a band leader/singer/songwriter/guitarist you know who sort of sets the tone but every band member has such an essential role in the sound that it is hard to overlook how important the six-piece band is to Jeff's songs. Guitar interplay between Nels Cline and Pat Sansome went to some new levels due to playing 70 songs over three nights...and that was pretty great. People sometimes forget how great the collective rhythm sections is, as individually they are so important to the sound. Glenn had a ton of different sounds for such a long list of songs and John (and Pat's) backing vocals on dozens of songs were a reminder that Jeff is Jeff and Wilco is a band and REALLY great band, at that. I am gushing because it was THAT kind of event. Three nights of greatness from the greatest live band in America today.

Wilco 3 amazing shows at the Capitol Theatre!

by Speedrack Jack on 4/4/23The Capitol Theatre - Port Chester

We saw the Friday & Saturday night shows at the Capitol and they were both great! Wilco never ever disappoints! The crowd in the back was very disappointing both nights with way too much chatter going on even during the quieter songs. Stay home or go to a bar to talk! SMH NY you can do better!

    So much talking

by Wes on 4/4/23The Capitol Theatre - Port Chester

We went twice and both times it was so much talking from the older folks in the crowd that it was terribly distracting. As far as the venue, it was mostly fine however when we asked security to handle the dude who was too drunk to stand, they came and talked to him WHILE HE WAS ON THE FLOOR and decided that he was fine. My assumption was that because most people drive to the tracks and older crowd is there to mingle rather than watch the show.

    Boo

by Sb on 4/3/23The Capitol Theatre - Port Chester

This band deserves to be booed so much that I can't wait to see them again, so I get the chance to do it.
