About

A critical smash on Broadway and in London, the two-time Tony Award® winning hit musical AMERICAN IDIOT tells the story of three lifelong friends, forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia. Based on Green Day’s GRAMMY® Award-winning multi-platinum album and featuring the hits “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Holiday” and the blockbuster title track, AMERICAN IDIOT boldly takes the American musical where it’s never gone before. With direction by Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening), choreography by Steven Hoggett (Once) and orchestrations and arrangements by Tom Kitt (Next to Normal), the result is an experience Charles Isherwood of The New York Times declares “thrilling, emotionally charged, and as moving as any Broadway musical I’ve seen this year!”

    American Idiot was amazing!

It's like listening to Green Day Greatest hits and more. The storyline is very emotional and some audience can relate to it. Vocals and acoustic rendition was awesome

    American Idiot-Pantages

by Sharkssss on 5/19/14Pantages - Hollywood

I now have seen American idiot nine times so my review would be different than the first time. Have seen it in NY, San Francisco, San Jose and LA. This cast is a bit weaker than the others I have seen but not significantly. Luckily, I was able to see the original cast on Broadway where Billie Jo played St Jimmy! Jared's (Johnny) voice was a bit weaker than I would have liked. Also, they didn't do the flying seen for Tunny and Extraordinary Girl. Not sure if that was a cast issue or theater issue. Carson (St Jimmy) and Andrew (key songs Too Much Too Soon and American Idiot) were great, especially all of Andrew's hand gestures. I saw it three times at Pantages, twice from the right orchestra and once from the left. The sound seemed better on the left-not sure if that is a theater issue or not. One really minor complaint-at the very beginning of the show when it starts "This Is American Idiot" the lead guitar player started in the middle of the phrase. I realize this is really picky but for me that line is important, followed by his guitar riff and I would have preferred if he waited one second longer. All in all, very entertaining and still my favorite musical of all time. I like the Broadway CD way better than the Green Day one due to the variety of voices for the different parts.

Green Day's American Idiot Was Beyond Good

by StarrJojoQuin on 5/19/14Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

Had an excellent time at Green Day's American Idiot. I've been to many plays this by far was the best ever. Loved the cast, the music and the dancing.

Talented cast hit it out of the park!

by Macstone on 5/19/14Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

My son is a HUGE Green Day fan so I decided to go along with him to see the show. Wow, wow, wow! are the first words that come to my mind. The opening number was powerful and impressive and the set, a modern industrial kaleidoscope of TVs and scaffolding with just a hint of an old brownstone facade that had seen better days, was impressive as well. The cast was outstanding - not a weak link in the bunch. The energy they exuded through their characters and choreography was electric. They surely did not "dial in" their performance; they were present, in the moment, and flat out outstanding! The Pantages itself is a wonderful venue and I must give full props to the crew and especially the sound tech. The vocals were blended wonderfully and the sound was full and powerful.

The cast was very good. The songs are unforgettable. The sound system at the Pantages was great though a bit loud. Enjoyed this thoroughly.

    The band was amazing

by pinx on 5/18/14Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

While I enjoyed the play and performances from the actors, I must admit that the band stole the show; they were beyond spectacular. The show and the story were great.

    Green Day / Dark Night

by Joe101 on 5/18/14Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

Unfortunately, the potential for a powerful insight into a deep dark side of self absorption, addiction, and utter narcissism falls beyond short. I have seen better High School choreography. Other than two performers worthy efforts (lead female and alter ego Jimmy) the rest of the cast seemed to be out of sync amateurs stuck somewhere between a cheesy halloween frat party and a karaoke ball. Sad to say it will take months for me to loose these images and enjoy my American Idiot CD again....where are you Billy Joe???

    Very flat

by trdite on 5/18/14Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

The show was very flat in its development. The story was barely understandable. It was a bunch of loud music and light show. Not entertaining at all.

American Idiot too much fit this Idiot

by Graysn on 5/18/14Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

Appreciate what this musical was trying to do but it was very disjointed too much going on. Not every popular Album/CD can be transformed into a musical. Tried to cover too much though appreciated the effort to express the alienation and struggles of the current generation.

    Green Day Fans!!

by summerhouse on 5/17/14Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

I would definitely recommend this production to anyone who is able to see it while its still here in town. It is a unique show with amazing music. If you are a big Green Day fan this is the show for you. If not you should not go it is not for everyone because there is not much dialogue so being a fan i loved it for the music. From a theatrical aspect there is many unique set changes and great choreography as well but if you are the type who needs a big story with lots of dialogue and plot involved this is not for you.
