Great show will definitely see agin next year! Makes me want to dance
I took my kids to Pilobolus on Saturday. We all were amazing at the beauty and skill of the dances. They had an entertaining and thought-provoking narration in between scenes. I highly recommend this event!
The performance was varied, creative, and well constructed, with both amazing athleticism and subtlety. I enjoyed the entire program - including the video interludes - but the performance of Skyscrapers was my favorite: clever, colorful and fun!
I have seen Pilobolus 8 times over the last 20 years. This was the only time I left somewhat disappointed . The new dances were longer and slower than is typical of this group. They also lacked the raw athleticism that is characteristic of this group. The shorter, more fun dances were great!
Fantastic performance with three new pieces premiering at ADF, Pilobolus continues to amaze, inspire and stretch their movement vocabulary. Standout was their use of objects in the first piece and tango combined with beautiful video footage and quick change costumes. The last piece about transformation I found to be moving and expressive in the nuances of gestures. The music selection supported and enhanced the dance. The video interludes between the pieces were fascinating, and added a new diamension and conversation to the total performance experience.
We haven't seen Pilobolus for several years and wanted to see them in DPAC. We sat upstairs and were uncomfortably chilly for the evening. We really liked the first performance. The others were pleasant and visually pleasing but not "WOW" material. The videos were interesting, but not always above YouTube stuff. We presumed they were connected in with the dance pieces that followed, but it was not always an obvious connection. I am not sure the performance was worth the $55 seats. DPAC is a pleasant venue in spite of Friday night's chill factor.
I went to see Pilobolus to see dancing. A significant portion of the time was devoted to boring videos. I object to paying to see dance and end up having to watch videos that have nothing to do with the dance performance.
I expect cutting edge from this group. Instead, I got a predictable and boring performance with lots of unnecessary and ridiculous video filler between the pieces.
The first piece by Forsythe (honored with long, wordy award ceremony) was great dance but done to a loop of the SAME 15 seconds of music repeated for 30 minutes. It is seared into my brain now, and not in a good way. Trying to be abstract/avant garde I suppose, but instead makes his audience want a frontal lobotomy to remove this tune from the gray matter!!! Second piece was WONDERFUL - standing ovation - wonderful dance, wonderful music and staging. Third piece was techno-robotic number that was beautifully performed and staged (lighting added to experience) but thank God I had ear plugs - they needed to turn down the volume by about 100 decibles!
This show was so much fun for the kids! So interactive! The kids and adults loved it and the dancers looked amazing!
Beautiful dancing. All three performances were very different, so there was something for everyone. I was really amazed at the versatility of the dancers, their athleticism, and talent.
LOVED IT! Edgey. I brought my 26 year old daughter and she loved it too.
Excellent..great to hear the choreographer speak!!
Very interesting and innovative company, enjoyed it..
Stephen Petronio is a welcome addition to the ADF. Underland was a very powerful piece and the dancers who brought it to life extremely talented. We hope to see more of this company in Durham.
What an amazing, gorgeous piece of work. Such emotive choreography within a diverse dance company. I loved the particular isolation within the body movements and all of the energy. Thank you!
Fraulein Maria was a fantastic show! I would definitely go see this again if it came back to the RTP area. I was so impressed with the musicality, timing, and execution of the performers. I loved seeing the fusion of hip hop and modern danced combined to the music from The Sound of Music. The way the choreographer took us through a comical journey of this well known musical was fascinating!
The show was fantastic and it is always great to have the opportunity to see great dancing. The technical skills of the dancers and the creativity of the choreography made for a fantastic show. The display of humor worked well for this show as I laughed and sang along to most of the songs. I am excited to see what the rest of the season has to offer.
Dance performed to perfection combined with laugh out loud humor! One of the best live performances I have ever seen.
