About

Holding onto hope when times are tough can take an awful lot of determination, and sometimes, an awful lot of determination comes in a surprisingly small package. Little Orphan Annie has reminded generations of theatergoers that sunshine is always right around the corner, and now the best-loved musical of all time is set to return in a new production - just as you remember it and just when we need it most.

Annie, directed by Jenn Thompson, features the iconic book and score, written by Tony Award®-winners Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin. This celebration of family, optimism and the American spirit remains the ultimate cure for all the hard knocks life throws your way.

    Annie!

by Emily on 2/14/24Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

The show itself was fabulous! It was absolutely insane that the sign language translators were blocking the actors on stage and the view for everyone sitting on the right side of the theater.

An amazing performance! The energy, adaptation, voices and acting were phenomenal. It felt and sounded like the original movie cast, the characters looks and voices were so spot on. It was difficult for each of us to pick our favorite moments and characters, we enjoyed them all! Don’t miss this show!

    Pleasant morning at the theater

by Madam X on 2/14/24Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

I was pleasantly surprised with Annie. So many times these off broadway touring companies are lacking. It was an all around stellar experience. Annie was in total command with the role , with a good, strong voice. Also, the orphans were talented with both singing and dancing. One little gal really belted out her solo. The dance routines were cleverly choreographed. As the actors interchange roles, it required multi talents. Apropos to that, the woman who did the solo in the number NYC was especially good. I haven’t scanned the playbill yet, so I’m not sure of actors biographies. I took my four year old granddaughter and she was enthralled. What a great introduction to live talent!

    Wonderful show

by Pat F on 2/13/24Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

ANNIE was an outstanding production. The acting and singing were wonderful. What powerful voices those girls had, especially Annie! The scene changes were flawless and kept the action moving. Shout out to Jeffrey Kelly as Rooster. Great to see a hometown boy from Cape Cod do so well! The Wang Theater is an incredible place! So beautiful. The seats were quite comfortable. My only concern was the volume of the sound system. It was too high, especially when the children sang. Their very loud high pitch voices were rather shrill. Though I suppose that it was better than being too low! All around, this was a great experience for us including my twelve year old grandson seeing his first ‘Broadway’ show. Bravo to all the cast, musicians and production crew !

    Great performance

by Am on 2/13/24Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

Loved the performance! They were all great. One thing that was a little upsetting was that we didn’t realize that the concessions stands sold peanut butter cups. My daughter has a peanut allergy. The girl sitting next to me was eating them. My daughter was really upset, nervous and cried most of the second act.

This rendition of Annie was truly amazing. The level of talent by the adult actors was incredible, and the child actors were truly amazing. The orchestra was impeccable. Definitely would return to see it again.

    Wonderful Show

by Donsoccer on 2/13/24Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

It has been many years since I last saw Annie in person with my children. This time with my Grand Children both 9 & 10 the show was wonderful. Maybe the 8th row tickets made all the difference in the world. We could see every expression nd the sound at the WANG is always great. Superb cast. Thanks & would highly recommend.

    Underwhelmed, and confused.

by Two Copies of Annie on 2/12/24Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

I'm not going to pretend to be a theatre officiando, which is why I'm confused. I've always loved the Annie movie and soundtrack. I've introduced my 7 year old daughter to it so when we saw this show we excitedly bought tickets. Everyone there, that I saw, came with young kids. This show started at 7:30 and didn't end until after 10pm. My kid slept through the second half. For a show meant for kids, why did it start late and run so long?? Also, I was surprised at what a diminished role the child actors had. Some of my favorite songs and scenes were cut and the ones that were added were boring. A waxing solo by Warbucks while Annie sits and stares? No thanks. A funny, delightful back and forth with Warbucks and Hannigan- cut. The whole second half dragged. There was no character development, and no chemistry between Warbucks and Annie. They met in one scene, where he was completely disinterested in her, and in the next scene he wanted to adopt her which felt really creepy, honestly. They cut the entire scene at the movies. It felt like they were trying to minimize the kids and create more spotlight for the adults in the show, though the strongest adult performer was the one who played Grace and they diminished her role as well as her romance with Warbucks. Overall I found it choppy and lacking the charm of the 1980s classic. The best scene was the Hard Knock Life song and choreography right as the beginning. It went increasingly downhill from there. Oh well.

    Great show not enough songs

by Joespopsicle on 2/12/24Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

My son and I love Annie and have seen the movies over and over. Yes the play is different than the movie we understand that. I would have loved to hear more of the music people love from the movies. The changes to the ending and the elimination of characters who are movie favorites were not great choices. Still it’s a fun show for families.

Actors were great, seats not to much

by Marge on 2/12/24Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

The performance was great but in my seat, I had a balustrade that took away the visibility of part of the stage. They could have warned me that it was a reduced visibility entrance.
