RONNIE SPECTOR IN CONCERT:
Girl group superstar Ronnie Spector first sang her way into hearts more than half a century ago with classics like “Be My Baby”, “Walking in the Rain”, and “Baby, I Love You”. Today The Ronettes’ queen bee takes the stage with the same charm and charisma that made her a star, delivering her inspired and soulful vocals with dazzling elegance while she sways to the swinging beat. At her shows Spector and her talented band perform hits from throughout her storied career, bringing to life the signature Wall of Sound for audiences to hear in person. She's an enduring legend who hasn't missed a beat, and ticket buyers shouldn’t miss any opportunity to see her shine in concert.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Veronica “Ronnie” Yvette Bennett was encouraged to sing at an early age, especially by her sister Estelle and cousin Nedra Talley. Their Saturday night concerts at Grandmother’s house had developed into a routine, and in 1959 The Ronettes were born. Legendary “Wall of Sound” producer Phil Spector agreed to mentor and write for the group in 1963, and shortly thereafter he and Ronnie began dating. The inspired songs went over well with fans and the group notched hits like “Be My Baby”, “Walking in the Rain”, and “Baby, I Love You”. Unfortunately, Spector’s control over the group lead to a decline in popularity as the eccentric producer refused to release their new material. Despite their staying power as a live act (including a 14-date tour opening for The Beatles), the group decided to split in 1967. After divorcing Phil in 1972, Ronnie attempted to restart her career by reforming The Ronettes with new members, but they split four short years later. Her resurgence began after she was featured on Eddie Money’s 1986 hit “Take Me Home Tonight”. The song was just the spark she needed to revive her career, and over the next two decades she remained a sought-after guest vocalist and powerhouse live act. More recognition came in 2007 when The Ronettes were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a much-deserved celebration that saw them perform together for the first time in 40 years.
Wanted to give my younger spouse a taste of the music I grew up with, & Ronnie Spector sounded like a good opportunity. I was surprised that there were hardly any younger people at the concert, that's OK because everyone was really supportive of the show. Ronnie seemed tired, sat down a lot as she described the screen images. The band was terrific, but overall the visual image of Ronnie & the backup singers lacked thoughtful pizzazz. .
Ronnie and the Ronnetts were and still is my asl time favorite girl group. Enjoyed the concert very much
The Parker Playhouse was a perfect intimate venue for Ronnie Spector. The Show was fantastic! In many ways Ronnie's voice has gotton Better than ever with age. Half the show were her oldies and the other half was her rendition of great songs which were perfect for her interpertation. She did Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" the Bee Gees "How Do You Mend A Broken Heart" , Brian Wilson's "Don't Worry Baby" The musicians, the backup singers, the acoustics....all were dynamite. Over the years, I have driven my wife crazy by playing the Ronnettes multiple times,so she was not that thrilled to go to the show. However, after the second song, she leaned over and said 'This is worth it ....she still has a great voice.!
The performance was very short, about 1 hour and 15 minutes. And that included time that Ronnie was not on stage signing with the Ronnettes. Unfortunately her voice is no longer near what it used to be. There were some good memories, but about the only good thing I can say is that I at least got to see Ronnie Spector.
I totally loved Ronnie She was amazing 55 year's ago, and she is still amazing. Loved the entire show.
Too short, she left out The best Part of breaking up is making up! andshe should have sang Take me home tonight, an tribute to her. Concert too short. She was good when she sang her songs and told her story. Just wanted more.
A wonderful trip down memory lane with Ronnie Spector! An absolutely awesome experience - catch Ronnie and the Ronettes if you are lucky enough for them to come to your town! Of course it included "Be My Baby" AND "Sleigh Ride" - and yes, they "sleighed" it!
The show started on time!!!! Woohoo for that. lol While it was great hearing some of the great oldies, Ronnie does not have the voice she used to have. The 2nd half of the show her voice was smoother than the 1st, however, she isn't 20 anymore either and we know voices change. On the other hand, we truly enjoyed the photos and stories she was able to share about her group; where they had played, who they had met, and other famous people who had co-written songs for them to sing . . . The backup vocals were excellent and so were the musicians (especially the lead guitarist!). Overall, well worth the money to see even if some of the notes weren't what they used to be. We had a great time.
