Seeing. a legend like Ron Carter. with top notch quartet was. a joy. This is my 3rd show at jimmy's. and it's a great venue.... excellent service from walking in the door to getting service at the table, top notch jazz musicians and audience . Ill be back on a regular basis . We. live 2 hrs north in western maine and are delighted to have such a treasure close by. The piano player Renee Rosnes was fantastic with the rest of the quartet just adding to a truly enjoyable evening of top shelf classic Jazz.

Ron Carter at Jimmy's Jazz & Blues Club

by Ditzah on 10/3/22Jimmy’s Jazz and Blues Club - Portsmouth

Had a date weekend with my husband in New Hampshire checking out Ron Carter & his quartet at Jimmy's Jazz & Blues Club in Portsmouth. The music was "Everything" highlighted only by the exceptional ambiance of Jimmy's. They have great acoustic sounds to elevate Ron's music. The owners did a great job re-purposing the building and using care with their design right down to the Restrooms!!! Even better is that there is now a venue close to Massachusetts to hear some great Jazz artist without having to go all the way to NYC. I'm excited to return back to Jimmy's to hear other artist in the near future.

The quartet was excellent; everyone did a few solos. I could listen to the pianist all day. Well worth it.

    Beautiful artistry.

by Julie on 10/3/22Jimmy’s Jazz and Blues Club - Portsmouth

A delightful musical conversation. The drummer was in an apparent state of ecstasy, playfully interacting with Ron. The eye contact and sizzle thrilled me. The pianist held her own, at times dominating the performance. I loved it all!

    An experience of a lifetime!

by bestdefense on 10/29/12Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

Ron Carter's quartet offered a lifetime experience for the audience, never to be forgotten. Each of the musicians was an essential part of the group's sound - at once distinct and complementary. The pianist opened the roof of Royce Hall and let the our emotions take flight. The percussionist brought the universe into the hall with exquisitly timed rhythms and sounds. The drummer held back, keeping us securely connected to the earth. And through it all, Ron Carter brought the dignity of a father teaching us our interconnected moral place in the world. In combination, for this atheist, it was a religious experience. Robert Glasper's trio, on the other hand, never left the room. Glasper played with a cramped style that was exceedingly repetitious and limited in range. Though it was apparent that he has the technique to do more with his music, he appeared to be satisfied to tell himself that an insistent less was more without giving more of himself. Based upon this performance, I don't need to hear him again. His bassist was worth hearing but his amplified sound was muddy and smothered the nuance in his playing. I would like to hear more of him with better production. Glasper's drummer was the highlight of the trio - truly exciting with the fastest wrists I have ever seen.

by EmCo789 on 10/29/12Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

Robert Glasper Trio was amazing and then Ron Quarter brought his quartet out and blew my mind even more! I love that he added a percussionist who was o so musical and had the great Renne Rosnes on piano!

An excellent contrast of two forms of jazz. The frenetic and improvisational, off-the-cuff style of Robert Glasper and his trio and the expertly polished and synced performance of a jazz legend, Ron carter, and his very skilled quartet. Great show. Great venue.
