About

Millennial Choirs and Orchestras on Tour

Though it may be cliché to say that a group have taken the country by storm — by growing to feature over 2,500 participants a year in ensembles rooted in five states across the country — the Millennial Choirs and Orchestras have done just that. Focused on classical and sacred music, this community group gives transcendent performances of both well-known works and new compositions, situating themselves as one of the country's most important collectives.

Millennial Choirs and Orchestras is a choir for youth and adults, and also includes a symphony orchestra. Founded by brothers Brandon Stewart and Dr. Brett Stewart in 2007, the MCO is a nonprofit group for people of all faiths and ages, operated by the organization Millennial Music. Its first ensemble was the Orange County Millennial Choirs and Orchestra, started in Orange County, California. A second group started in Arizona in 2009 as the East Valley Millennial Choirs and Orchestra. In 2013, groups sprang up in Texas and Utah. That same year, the MCO was invited to perform at the National Conference of the American Choral Directors Association in Dallas. Another iteration of the group began in Boise, Idaho, in 2015. The following year, all five ensembles teamed up to head out on the God & Country tour. In 2017, musicians from the five groups got together to perform at the Salt Lake Tabernacle in Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The MCO collective have released at least five albums. The second, Messiah in America, was a recording of an oratorio composed by Dr. Brett Stewart. The libretto, from Stewart and Bruce Richardson, was compiled from the Book of Mormon and the Bible. The music chronicled Christ's visits to the Americas as depicted in the Book of Mormon. The work was written for choir, children's chorus, soprano, alto, tenor and bass soloists, full orchestra and organ. It debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Traditional Classical Albums chart.

    Wonderful

by J&L on 4/24/24Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - Boise

We very much appreciated having the lyrics for some of the songs shown on the screen. It is too bad that not all the songs have this feature. It would have improved the impact that you were trying to have the songs convey. This was true with the song sang by the children. The lettering on the screen could also be improved by having a dark perimeter around each letter with a white center for the letter. So it could be easily visible no matter the contrast of the picture. It was disruptive to allow late comers into the hall in the middle of Each songs performance. There was plenty of time to find late seats when the choirs were shifted that I did not see a need to have such seating take place during a song.

    Excellent MCO concert!

by Kell on 4/23/24Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - Boise

I went to my first MCO concert a few years ago, and it was such an incredibly impressive concert, it left me feeling that I never want to miss any of them in the future! The Christmas concerts are my favorites, however this Spring Patriotic concert was awesome. Thank you to everyone involved!!

Great, but couldn't download the program

by Gary on 4/23/24Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - Boise

The concert was great, very efficient with how they handled the 700 performers on and off the stage. All the music tied in well with the God and Country theme. The only problem was that they give you a QR code to pull up the whole program, a multi-page file with lots of details about the group, the music, and performers. But inside the venue, cell signals were very poor. Barely 1 bar in 4G. So couldn't download the program on my Samsung on Verizon. Same with my wife's phone. Handing out a sheet of paper with a QR code is obviously a cost savings, but useless if it doesn't work.

by VLambert on 4/23/24Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - Boise

I have been coming to MCO concerts for five + years. I have a daughter in MCO. I put her into MCO after I went to a Christmas concert and left in awe. Regardless if you know a single person participating in MCO, GO!! You will be so glad you did. ♥️

    Excellent

by Wheek on 4/23/24Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - Boise

Such an excellent event, special music --a treat to listen to that quality locally-- AND patriotic... which is rare nowadays, but so essential, it helps bind us together as fellow citizens! Loved the children's choir, youth, and adult choir as well as the orchestra. Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this production to our community.
