    Great Songs, Intimate Setting

by JenGB on 3/13/23Scherr Forum- B of A Performing Arts Center, Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

The JD Souther show was terrific. He is a talented songwriter with great stories about the 70's and the artists he hung out with - Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, the Eagles, etc. I had forgotten that he has written some of the songs of my formidable years. His voice was intact and he was gracious and appreciative. I would see him again in a heartbeat!

Excellent Songs & Stories, but a bit disappointing solo

by C. Y. on 3/12/23Scherr Forum- B of A Performing Arts Center, Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

This is one of '70s folk rock's greatest song writers, and his stories reflect that dynamic, fascinating period of our music history. However, while he played all the great songs he was responsible for, playing them solo was not the best delivery for such classic rock institutions. (Let's face it - we are getting a little long in the tooth...) He would be better served having a small group playing with him - another rhythm guitar player and a backup vocal, perhaps.

    Great songs and stories

by Mickey on 8/15/22The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red Bank

Despite getting off to a rocky start (he had some choice words for some people who were talking during his 1st song), Souther delivered the performance as promised in the title (“All the hits, some of the stories”). In a non-stop 2-hour show, the singer-songwriter told great stories about his friends (Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Warren Zevon, Jackson Brown, and, of course, Linda Rondstadt), illustrated with terrific performances of songs from his hit-heavy catalog. A great evening in a terrific venue.

The Show was GREAT, but the venue...

by MQ on 8/9/22The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red Bank

We loved JD Souther and wished we could have stayed for the whole show. He is so very talented and has wonderful tales to tell. BUT the venue was FREEZING! We tried to stick it out, but when we couldn't stop shivering we just had to leave before the show ended. We lasted about an hour and a half. Also, we found the seating arrangements very confusing. It would have helped to have a photo of the seating along with the seating chart. We ended up across from each other at two different tables.

by Frank A on 8/9/22The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red Bank

Great small venue. The history of the music that he was part of just wonderful. He didn’t have to sing. I could have listened to his stories for hours!!!!

    Disappointing performance by Souther

by Willie on 3/22/22Ludlow Garage Cincinnati - Cincinnati

Souther acted like he didn’t want to be there. He criticized the venue and complained about having to play an electric piano instead of a baby grand. He started a song in the wrong key and had to start over. Very disappointing.

An unbelievable intimate experience. Interacts with the crowd, telling stories and making jokes. Wonderful, wonderful time.
