    Primus Red Rocks!

by DaMicRula on 5/1/12Red Rocks - Morrison

Bottom line Primus should have headlined, The Lips was a great show but in my opinion they should have not got the headline slot. Primus (as always) melted about every face there w/ new materiel and old jams as well.

    primus flaming lips

    by 80303 on 2/10/12red rocks - denver

I wish Primus had headlined...they might have been more fired up.....they seemed like they were kind of going through the motions...like it was jot a great night for them. MORE Primus concerts would be great.

    Primus is awesome

by Jimmmmkhjlkjhkxfjtyhgcv on 10/17/11Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

Primus was fantastic, but their set was too short. Why the Flaming Lips headlined is beyond me. They were mediocre at best. Their interpretation of Dark Side was way over the top, and the theatrics and A/V antics did not cover their limited range and amateurish talent. Morning Teleportation was just awful.

    Best from Primus in years.......

by musicluvuh69 on 8/16/11Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

The only reason I didn't give this event 5 stars is because I had to bail on Flaming Lips and their rendition of Dark Side with bits of Wizard of Oz infused into it. I thought it was interesting until the second track and then the intro to "Time", which was originally one of the greatest moments in recorded music history reduced to the sound of a klaxon blaring senselessly for 30 seconds; after that I had to bail folks, sorry. Despite that experience I still would like to see Flaming Lips doing their own material someday. Primus, what can I say? A good Primus show will leave me feeling uplifted and will haunt me and continue to wash over me for days afterward, as was the case on Aug. 3rd. Everyone in Primus that evening was firing on all cylinders and individual solos were brilliant; I can't wait for the new stuff to come out as that sounds excellent as well. If you do see Primus try to see them at Red Rocks since the sound and atmosphere generally are unparalleled anywhere else.

Fantastic show. Primus played some classics along with some new stuff (The song "Lee Van Cleef was great), and The Flaming Lips did Dark Side of the Moon with songs from the Wizard of Oz mixed in. I just wish Primus had played a song with The Flaming Lips.

Went for Primus, blown away by the Lips

by AikiViking on 8/10/11Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

I live in northern Ogden, and Primus is one of my all time favorites, seeing that they were going to be playing at Red Rocks along with another of my favorite bands ( all be it not one of my top faves but I still rock to the Lips ) and not only that, but the lips were doing their own version of Dark Side of the Moon a legendary album in its own right? I was compelled to go regardless of expense or rhyme or reason. And I was not disappointed, in fact I was blown away. I went for the Primus show with a cherry on top, well the cherry turned out to be the red pill and I fell down the rabbit hole and my mind was raped by music....in a good way. Primus was fantastic, dont get me wrong, they rock six ways from sunday and then some, new material, old classics, some of my favorite songs were done. But The Flaming Lips stole the show, Wayne Coyne's giant bubble, the band being presented walking through the white light, the added delight of the extra wizard of oz combination, the hott dorothy girls, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" - and " If I Only Had a Brain" --Whats Not to Love? The answer : absolutely nothing. It rocked my world and left me with an ear to ear smile the rest of the night. I have new respect for the Lips Thank you Primus and The Flaming Lips for doing such passionate work, and making this young mans fantasies a reality. I'll never forget my trip to Red Rocks

Of course, the venue makes a tremendous difference for both fans and bands, but this was a great show all around. High energy and good times!

Theatrical Flaming Lips out funked by Primus

by ogmiii on 8/9/11Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

While the Lips paid homage to the Dark Side well, they were long on theatrics and short on musicianship. Clearly this isn't their music so the focus is on their theatrical side, which doesn't show their skill as musicians like it should. Primus on the other hand was clearly the headliner as the music goes. Funky hot rhythms and great fun lyrics delivered with plenty of energy through the long set. More time on stage with way more musical energy, Primus should be takin' home the bacon on this tour!

Not a Good Idea for the Lips

by Laylajayne on 8/9/11Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

The Flaming Lips are so good and their concerts are so much fun that to cover Dark Side of the Moon was actually a disservice. Dark Side is a great album, but far too mellow for this band. I hope they don't do this ever again and just keep rocking with their own music from now on because the Lips rule!

I went wanting to see Primus. I wasn't a fan of the Flaming Lips. It turned out that I thought Primus was pretty good and the Flaming Lips was AWSOME!
