Devotchka.. HOW DID YOU GET SO GOOD?

by Luckieduc on 3/14/11The Music Box - Hollywood

It was a stellar performance from a truly talented band. Nick Urata has so goddamn much passion in his voice.. It's insanely sexy. I feel like this band may have appealed a bit more to the ladies of the audience than the men. Even still, the gentleman who accompanied me to the performance agreed that Devotchka is more than enjoyable.

Best show I've been to in a long time!!

by Elle1984 on 3/14/11The Music Box - Hollywood

Ambiance was incredible! Enraptured by their seemingly effortless and natural talent. Truly felt like you were in a desert as you took in a fusion of gypsy like and Mariachi sounds. What an ensemble ~ the violin, accordion, sousaphone, bass, maracas, etc. really set a mystical, magical , and sometimes melancholic yet circus like tone. Had a little bit of everything and it all worked flawlessly with the enchanting vocals that sounded like a cross between Jeff Buckley, Alex Ebert, and Bryan Ferry.

    DeVotchKa was, unfortunately, forgettable

by MusicBoxer on 3/14/11The Music Box - Hollywood

Opening act Mariachi el Bronx was fantastic, delivering a heartfelt take on a classic sound... DeVotchKa, though extremely talented and musically diverse put on a great show, with attention to detail -- augmenting their act with live dancers, shadowplays and projected images. However, all of the skill seemed to be for naught, as their stage presence didn't really seem to stir the audience and the tunes all ended up coming across as a generic melange of international instrumentation, all averaging out to the same basic song, over and over. I was hoping to be blow away, and was neither under- nor over-... I was simply whelmed

    Divine Dynamics of DeVotchKa

by FrancoL on 3/14/11The Music Box - Hollywood

Crisp, Clean, and Divine. DeVotchka put together a symphony of sound that one could only cherish and try to recreate metally.

The show was absolutely amazing. This is the second time I've seen Devotchka and they never fail to impress. Seeing them perform 'How it Ends' live is one of the most haunting things you'll ever see.

    Amazing Show!

    by Jax78 on 2/26/11Filmore Auditorium - Denver

Devotchka put on such an unforgettable show; I had high expectations and they exceeded them. I would definitely reccomend them to anyone because they have such a unique sound not found anywhere. Nick Urata has such a soulful voice and presence, and each musician in their ensemble play beautifully and energeticly. What a treat!
