About

Played by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra

With performances from AR Rahman and other musicians from India

A world without AR Rahman would be a world without Bollywood.

Described by Time as ‘the world's most prolific and popular composer', the Indian singer, songwriter, composer and philanthropist has influenced every corner of his home country's cinema culture. In this Asia TOPA exclusive, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will perform the Music of AR Rahman, with the superstar himself taking to the stage as special guest.

Fusing the delicate intricacy of eastern classical composition with the innovations of electronic music and the majesty of traditional orchestral arrangements, AR Rahman's music has earned him two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.

Featuring signature works such as Jai Ho and Slumdog Millionaire Suite, this one-of-a-kind concert will see the MSO joined by international guest soloists S. Navin on flute and Asad Khan on sitar as well as vocal soloists and an epic 30 voice choir.

  • Unforgettable Night with ARR!

by Stella on 11/24/25Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was three (3) hours of pure bliss! ARR delivered an incredible performance in Toronto (August 12, 2025), blending nostalgia with stunning live arrangements. Growing up with his music, it was deeply emotional to hear so many classics performed live. The sound, visuals, and energy were top-notch, and the supporting musicians were outstanding. Every moment felt special.

Literally 2 songs and that was it - rest was introduction of new talent which we were not expecting

  • Dissapointing

I’ve attended many of A.R. Rahman’s concerts over the years, and this one was quite different from his usual performances. The show had a strong religious focus, with elements of both Hinduism and Islam, and leaned heavily toward Carnatic-style music rather than his popular movie songs. There was very little variety, and surprisingly, only one Tamil song — which is unusual for his concerts. It would have been nice to have some indication or description beforehand about the theme and style of the event, as many attendees who expected his classic hits were left disappointed. Unfortunately, it didn’t feel worth the ticket price for those of us who were hoping for his typical concert experience.

  • Exactly what you want from Sir ARR

by Shukan on 10/13/25The Theatre at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Up Close and Personal, the concert that marked the launch of the band Jhaala, was everything many of us had hoped for from Rahman this year — a soulful blend of classical and Sufi magic. Unlike the summer concert earlier this year, which leaned heavily into rock and DJ-style experimentation, this performance brought back the timeless essence of ARR’s 90s sound: hauntingly beautiful, deeply stirring, and true to his roots. True to its name, the concert felt intimate and extraordinary. It was surprising to see only about half the seats filled — perhaps because classical music isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, or maybe because it was his second show of the year. I had high hopes for the summer concert, but was left wondering why it veered so far from the signature soulfulness we associate with Rahman. This recent show, however, was pure magic. If future concerts follow this path, I’ll be there in a heartbeat. Love you ARR — keep spreading the love and the music!”

  • Disappointed.

by Ken on 10/13/25The Theatre at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

A.R. Rehman is a renowned Bollywood music director and composer. He only sang Sufi songs in the concert. We went to listen to his famous Hindi songs. I wish they mentioned this in the advertisement; where it said A.R.Rehman live in person. No mention of a exclucive Sufi program. We were very disappointed. Many felt the same and left the concert halfway.

  • A Disappointing Night with AR Rahman

by Mohammad on 10/13/25The Theatre at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

What was marketed as a spiritual musical journey turned out to be one of the worst concert experiences I’ve ever had. AR Rahman was barely on stage for an hour, and shockingly, he didn’t perform any of his iconic hits. Instead, he delegated the stage to lesser-known performers while claiming the show was meant to be “authentic Sufi and spiritual.” Ironically, this so-called purity was presented inside a casino venue, mixing religious themes in a way that felt tone-deaf and disjointed. Fans came expecting the magic of Rahman’s legendary catalog, but were met with confusion and disappointment. The abrupt ending left the entire arena stunned. For the price paid, this felt like a slap in the face to loyal fans. Local South Asian bands could have delivered a far more engaging and respectful performance. I won’t be attending another AR Rahman concert again.

  • AR Rahman came only for 5 minutes at the end

by AC on 10/12/25Living Arts Centre Auditorium - MississaugaRating: 1 out of 5

The show was targeted for a particular group speaking Tamil as the singers sang in Tamil language only. We could understand the emotion behind the songs hence were disappointed. AR rahman showed up just for 5 minutes at the end for a speech. Was frustrating to be misled like this

  • Utterly disappointing

by SI on 10/12/25Living Arts Centre Auditorium - MississaugaRating: 1 out of 5

A very disappointing and unsatisfactory experience. With ticket prices so high and being marketed with AR’s name, you’d expect to hear or see a little more of him. It was falsely marketed and for that huge price, was left wanting for more.

  • Not worth the money

by DAA on 8/21/25Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 2 out of 5

I paid to listen and enjoy Hindi music but end up listening to other languages songs which I don’t understand and very few Hindi songs. I believe my money was wasted.
