About

Liz Phair’s debut album, Exile in Guyville (1993) was ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest albums of all time. It transformed the Chicago-raised musician into one of the most important singer-songwriters of her generation. Phair went on to earn two Grammy Award nominations and three gold records with Exile in Guyville, Whip-Smart (1994) and Liz Phair (2003), penning the hit songs “Why Can’t I?” and the Grammy-nominated “Supernova.” To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Exile in Guyville, Phair is embarking on the fall’s much-anticipated GUYVILLE TOUR, performing the debut album in its entirety.

Liz Phair - Music Hall of Williamsburg

    Liz Phair rocks!

by NocturnalRapture on 2/3/11Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

I was introduced to the music of Liz Phair over 15 years ago. I went to see her in concert for the first time at this event. She is still gorgeous and kicks ass playing her guitar and singing . . . in wicked spiked heels. She has lost none of her enthusiasm and also has great stage presence. Though it was a small venue, she kept up the high-energy, banging, womyn-empowering songs the whole concert. She took requests and played many of my favorite songs from her older records. I recommend going to a Liz Phair concert if she is ever near you. I did and it paid off!

Liz Phair did not disappoint !

by Billiegirl40 on 2/1/11Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Liz Phair was amazing. I have never seen her play before. I wasn't even a huge fan. I am going to get her albums. She was awesome live --that girl can sing.

Venue was awesome! Small and intimate so matter where you are you have a great view of the stage! Not to mention the second level balcony with seating, however when you're right front, dead and center of the artist or band, the acoustics aren't great! The music was overpowering and it was difficult to hear Liz, but Liz has got great stage presence and was funn to watch. She really engages with the crowd! Not only did she pose for pics, but even invited a few fans on stage to sing along. What a performer!

Liz was awesome and this venue is great. Roomy yet intimate and the bouncers didn't have the power trip attitude.

    Liz Phair in Atlanta

    by EGamble3 on 1/31/11Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

Liz Phair put on an unbelievable show to a crowd of hardcore fans. She played songs from all of her albums and played many numbers from Exile in Guyville. The crowd was enthusiastic and requested several songs which she played, even some songs that her backing band didn't know. The band was tight and it was a pleasure to see one of rocks game changers in person.

    Liz Phair

by bufetboy on 1/31/11Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

I was disappointed overall with the show because it just did not last long enough. I thought Liz looked great and the band sounded pretty good after some early tweaks to get the vocal mix fine tuned. The hired hands did not really look like they were into the songs they were playing, but Liz put a lot of heart into her performance. It was just too short, an hour & 5 or 10 minutes did not cover near enough of her fine work. The crowd was enthusiastic, Liz even asked for us to follow her around to other venues, so why not put a little more effort into pleasing such good fans. Perhaps the band only knows a small number of her songs at this point in the tour, I hope they stay with it and expand the body of work.

    Phairly awesome

    by Gollum3 on 1/31/11Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

Liz Phair has never been known for great vocal range, variety or amazing musicianship. She IS known for saucy, intelligent lyrics and a terrific, down to earth, earnest stage presence free of big star BS and providing a rip-roaring fun show. She delivered on all these fronts and threw in a sexy smile and bod to match. Fun for all and worth a lot more than $20! The Variety was, as always a great venue.

    Liz Phair

by Sailorjim on 1/29/11The Norva - Norfolk

Liz is a dynamite guitar player and a great performer with lots of pizazz and peersonality. I knew her name but not her music but enjoyed every monent of her show. The crowd was very small (about 250) in the 1500 capacity of the NORVA in Norfolk.

    Liz rocks

    by 4kiki on 1/29/11Rex Theatre - Pittsburgh

Liz puts on a great show. I was really most impressed with her guitar prowess. Tiny girl, huge talent. Definitely recommend this to everyone. I'm more old-school Liz, but did enjoy a lot of the new music.

Liz and the Band rock The Norva

by DrRudy on 1/28/11The Norva - Norfolk

Liz Phair and her band were tight. An excellent show overall. The crowd was definitely pleased. The show was not packed on Thursday night in Norfolk, Va. I like the Norva sometimes when it isn't packed. Liz liked the venue too. Liz looked totally hot and sang beautifully. The music is kind of soft punk. Almost pop but not quite. She has her own style which is why I like her. The band was right on. The band and the crowd both were having a great time! I would definitely see them again.

    Warm it up Liz!

by SoapstarJimmy on 1/28/11Rex Theatre - Pittsburgh

On a bitter cold January night in Pittsburgh, who else could warm up a room like Liz Phair? It sure didn't feel like the dead of winter when Liz took the stage to the delight of her many fans on Monday 1/24/2011 at the Rex Theatre. Even the most casual fan of 90's music knows Liz from her "Whip-smart" hit "Supernova." So to welcome them to her show she opened with this tune, pulling no punches, rocking from the get go. Her sound was perfect for the room, enveloping and pleasing without being to loud or overwhelming. She continued the set with three tunes from her classic album "Exile in Guyville". Liz was very friendly with the crowd telling us that " we better be alright since our team was going to the Superbowl". She implored the Steelers to beat the Packers who advanced after beating her beloved Chicago Bears. After a few tunes she commented on her return to Pittsburgh, saying that it had been a while, wondering why we don't ever call or write. This prompted some comments from the crowd including someone who shouted something about "releasing the poisons." "What?", asked Liz, "release the poisons?", which must have cued her band because the drummer broke out the high-hat riff from Bell Biv Devoe's 90's tune "Poison" followed by the guitar player jumping into the opening jam of Poison's "Talk Dirty to Me". This amused Liz, who danced to the jams and laugh as her guitar player said to the crowd "that's two 'poisons' for you." This was a fine example of the easy, smooth feel of a great set of music. Liz continued with a selection of tracks from her catalog including the hymn-like, beautiful "Nashville", the rocking "Polyester Bride", and tranquil "Perfect World." Not to be forgotten, her fantastic, internet released album "Funstyle" was represented by two tunes "And He Slayed Her" as well as "Oh, Bangladesh." Conspicuously absent were any tunes from her album "Somebody's Miracle", which even was acknowledged by a fan who shouted a request to "play something from 'Somebody's Miracle." Liz was clearly in charge of her show and any tune that she played was warmly welcomed by her fans. After closing the show with, (in Liz's words"a brilliant song"), "Fuck and Run", she and her band left the stage to roaring applause and cheers. They didn't have to wait long for Liz to return and treat them to a four tune encore. For the second song of the encore, "Flower" Liz needed a female voice to sing the harmony part of the song. Asking the crowd for a volunteer, Liz spotted a gal in the front of the stage and asked her to step up. Without hesitation, the fan came up on stage and confidently sang along with Liz. After playing her wonderful 2003 comeback hit "Why can't I ?" Liz closed the show with another classic tune "Johnny Feelgood." Liz looked spectacular, as if she hadn't aged a day since 1993. Her voice was clear and strong and her band was tight and rehearsed. If Liz Phair comes to your town, don't miss her show. Let her, just for one night, take you back to the 90's, a time when life was easy, nothing mattered and Liz Phair was just starting her reign as the queen of chords and melodies.

    Liz Phair @ the Rex-Pittsburgh

by Pomegranite on 1/27/11Rex Theatre - Pittsburgh

Saw Liz Phair show 1/24/2011. Have been wanting to see her since '98 & she was so worth the wait. Her show ROCKED! Liz was fun, seemed down to earth & sounded awesome. She interacted with the audience and even had an audience member come up on stage to help her sing "Flower". I would absolutely see her again in concert.

    Awesome rock show

by JoleneM on 1/26/11Rex Theatre - Pittsburgh

This show was fantastic. Liz knows what her best work is, and she brought us a rock show. I love all of her music, but so appreciated that she stepped it up and made every song a little louder and a little more wicked. She brought two guitarists and a drummer and they pounded it out. Awesome.

    Liz Rocks!

by HavocEngr on 1/26/11Rex Theatre - Pittsburgh

This show was awesome. Better than I was hoping for. I was praying that she'd play a lot of material from the first two albums and she didn't disappoint. I didn't keep track but I'd say 75 percent of the show focused on material from "Exile in Guyville" and "Whipsmart." The two songs she played from the latest album didn't sound out of place one bit. I think she played for around 80 minutes, so she could've squeezed in a few more of the newer songs.
