About

From rock to country to opera, there's hardly a genre that 11-time Grammy winner and multi-award nominee Linda Ronstadt hasn't tackled with tremendous success. When Ronstadt performs live in concert, fans get a dynamic singer with a powerful voice that could shatter glass. Tickets to her tours sold out repeatedly as she broke all kinds of gender barriers, proving that a woman could hold her own in male-dominated rock and roll. Tucson-native Ronstadt met guitarist Bob Kimmel in college. With him and another guitarist, Kenny Edwards, she formed The Stone Ponies, a folk-rock trio with an ultra-hip California sound.

After experimenting with a variety of styles, she settled on a soft, country rock sound that became her signature style for many years. With the release of 1974's "Heart Like a Wheel" – which shot to No. 1 – Ronstadt was off and running, enjoying a slew of hits, such as "You're No Good," "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" and "When Will I Be Loved." These songs made Linda Ronstadt's name synonymous with her sweet vocal style. However, with her career as an interpretive singer, taking covers and transforming them into unique works with a flavor that belonged to her and her alone, Ronstadt ensured her place in the pantheon of great live singers. Her efforts did not go unrewarded. 1977's "Simple Dreams" went to No. 1 as well, winning three Grammys. In 1978, Ronstadt grabbed four of Billboard's top awards across four separate genres. After dazzling listeners in theater, opera and other genres, Ronstadt eventually settled into adult contemporary, a genre that suits her versatile voice perfectly. She continued to receive the industry's highest accolades for her vocal work across the field, her many collaborative efforts and her influential place in music history as a truly groundbreaking female artist.

A wide and varied review of an impressive career. Three days later and the clips from "Long, Long Time" and "Don't Know Much" still echo in my head and heart.

My sister and I absolutely love Linda Ronstadt's voice. We grew up listening to 'Canciones de mi Padre' which was a CD where Linda signs classic traditional Mexican songs to mariachi music... And this is not easily done in concert as the artists voice must be able to outsing the live mariachi... Which she did, and rocked it every time. Unfortunately, the reason I am giving her 2 of the 5 stars is that we went to go see a show, a concert... And we were so disapointed to see Ms. Ronstadt in pants and a blouse singing to this amazing Mexican music. It was like seeing a Broadway Classical show with all the actors in their regualr clothes instead of their costumes. It was such a dissapointment to my sister, myself, and I know a lot of other people there as well...

Linda still has a beautiful voice

by yankee77 on 11/30/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

My mom and I have loved Linda and her mariachi music.....she was the one who got me to listen to and sing to this music.....loved the whole show and the mariachis were FABULOUS! I do wish that Linda was not so robotic on stage and I wish she would have dressed more for the occasion, but overall it was a good show and I am glad I was able to experience this with my mama.

    Linda Ronstadt was disappointing

by obsue on 11/16/09The Midland by AMC - Kansas City

We have been fans since the 70's. We were very excited to hear Linda Ronstadt sing; we got tickets in the middle of the 6th row; we drove 5 hours to get to KC. The Mariache Band was good, their vocalists were extraordinary; they sang for probably 45 min. We kept waiting for Linda to sing. She finally did . . . but ALL songs were in Spanish and she only sang 6-8 songs with a weak voice. We had really wanted to hear some of the songs that had made her famous. Most entertainers of her age do a combo of old and new. We would not have attended if we had known the type of music was going to be purely mexican. However, there were many people in the audience who loved the music.

    misleading concert title

by lindafan on 11/13/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

Linda did not appear for well over an hour and although Los Comparos are talented mariachi musicians their music is one dimensional, repititious. When Linda did appear her voice was drowned out by the overly loud accompaniment. We left before it was over.

    A Dream Come True Experience

by whatafan on 11/10/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

OMG...still has the vocal cords she had when her career first took off. Unbelievable voice. The best in Rancheras, Country, or Rock. Have seen many concerts in my time but no single voice can make me feel what Linda Ronstadt can. Why not a Live album!!!
