Direct from Broadway, MEAN GIRLS is the hilarious hit musical from book writer TINA FEY ("30 Rock), composer JEFF RICHMOND ("Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"), lyricist NELL BENJAMIN (Legally Blonde) and director CASEY NICHOLAW (The Book of Mormon). The story of a naïve newbie who falls prey to a trio of lionized frenemies, MEAN GIRLS "delivers with immense energy, a wicked sense of humor and joyful inside-jokery." Went with my daughters (30’s) and we all loved it!
My daughter and I have been looking forward to this all year. It did not disappoint. The cast was great and they sang so well. Loved the songs and it was so funny! We had to listen to the soundtrack on the way home.
It was amazing. It was funny, it was moving. I loved the colors. The actors were outstanding. Great show all around.
The show was mediocre in my opinion-nothing short of a high school play
Kinda stupid predictable story, but several good laughs and extremely talented cast with singing and dancing,
Our daughter loved it, all performances were great. Kudos to all the actors.
I have been to a lot of plays and this one totally SUCKED! I was very unhappy & disappointed with it. Plus, it is very dirty & vulgar. Not raunchy, just straight up dirty…in terms of the language used, the inuendos, & the like. There were a lot of kids & teenagers in the audience and none of the dirty language and parts of the play had anything to do with the movie. They weren’t even funny and were completely inappropriate & had no reason to be put into the play. In particular, the scene where Regina drops her skirt & bends over, posing in her thong underwear over & over was just stupid, ridiculous, & crass. I was uncomfortable as an adult being that there were so many young kids there watching the same thing and I am no way a prude. It was a play many people brought their whole families to & judging from the audience reactions at times, nobody was expecting this kind of dirtiness & vulgarity. I had 2 teenage girls (unrelated) sitting next to me gasping at several scenes because they couldn’t believe the thong scene & all the times they used the word “D**k”. I wish I could get my time & money back. I would give it negative stars if that was an option.
The cast was believable, the snobbishness and different high school cliques were depicted appropriately. The music was inspiring, the timing and tempo were perfect. The sets were clever the way the school desks went in and out and twirled. Regina’s room was fake and fluffy, just like Regina. It was a brilliant adaptation of the Mean Girls movies.
I grew up watching the movie over and over again, then watched the musical movie….the musical is a million times better live! So fun and so exciting to watch!
Did not thrill me. It was just ok. Could not follow some of the songs
Mean Girls was an incredible show! This would land in my top 3 favorite shows I have seen! My 13 year old daughter loved it too (she is big into musical theater), she ranted and raved about it the whole weekend! “So Fetch”!
We thought quality of cast is excellent. We did not walk away humming any of the tunes like we did from Les Mis nor Miss Saigon, nor Phantom. We did not see the movie but could tell from the audience reaction to different players the audience knew what was going to happen.
It was an excellent show. Definitely not Broadway, but closer to home and close enough.
What an amazing cast. The singing was outstanding. And it was so so so funny! Loved it!
I've seen Mean Girls a few times on Broadway, and it was so nice to see it in San Jose last night! I'm not sure what others were hearing or if they just don't hear, but the vocals were so good and on par with the camp vibes of the OBC. The characters were all wonderful, and the actors did a great job leaning into just how camp and fun the musical is supposed to be. I'm trying to decide if I should buy a ticket for the last Sunday performance, and I wish the show would have been here longer.
This musical was amateur and the vocals for all of the actors and actresses was quite pitchy. Only “Aaron” could sing and his part was small. I am really confused as to how a vocal director could allow such quality to be presented. There were also moments where some key lines were difficult to hear. The timing for lines was also slow. I expected much more from a touring musical and was really disappointed.
Disappointed in the quality of the production, script, acting, and casting. Some of the cast was descent; it was obvious that they worked hard and were excited to perform, but it was more of high school quality play than anything else.
Usually the sound at the Center for performing arts is great. The voices were at times difficult to hear what the words were as the music overwhelmed it. Otherwise great!
Mean Girls was so much fun! Music was great as was talent. So glad we saw it. Highly recommend!
