About

Plan your escape to the new musical about the choices we make—and the people we become—once we’ve had a change in latitude.

ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE is the musical comedy getaway featuring both original songs and your most-loved JIMMY BUFFETT classics, including “Come Monday,” “Volcano,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” and many more. With a book by Emmy® Award winner GREG GARCIA (“My Name is Earl,” “Raising Hope”) and Emmy® Award nominee MIKE O’MALLEY (“Survivor’s Remorse,” “Shameless”), this rousing and refreshing new production is choreographed by Tony Award® nominee KELLY DEVINE (Come From Away, Rock of Ages) and directed by the Tony Award® winner CHRISTOPHER ASHLEY (Come From Away, Memphis).

Imagine a place where the sun is hot, the water’s warm, and the drinks are as cold as they are plentiful. Welcome to Margaritaville, the island paradise where city folk get away from it all, and the locals get into the kind of trouble you can almost always sweet talk your way out of. Take a break from your troubles, make some new friends at the bar, and kick back to the soothing sounds of the steel drum. It doesn’t get much better than this. All you need now is a ticket.

ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE

More than a musical. It’s a way of life.

    Mamma Mia in the tropics

We smiled for the entire 2+ hours! We knew every word to every song. The beach balls at the end were a surprise and made the event even better.

"Escape to Margaritaville" - truly an escape!

by ArnoldJC on 12/5/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Very entertaining and loved how they tied in the verses to Jimmy Buffet songs to lines in the musical with the actors/actresses. Would definitely see it again!

    Absolutely magnificent!

by gimparella on 12/5/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Took my Mom for her 75th birthday. We're both "Parrotheads" and love Jimmy Buffet. The actors were incredible - extremely talented cast all the way around! The singing was goosebump-inducing. The storyline was well written while incorporating the Buffett lifestyle, songs, and humor. The play was incredibly clever in adding bit and pieces from the songs naturally into the dialogue - you didn't realize it until they started singing the song! The entire audience laughed, clapped, and sang our hearts out!! Standing ovation at the end along with an encore of one last sing along. My Mom said, "You know those times in your life that you never want to forget? - This was one of those times.". A beautiful day out for Mother and Daughter, bonding over Jimmy Buffet and singing some crazy lyrics.

Loved it. Its a feel good play. Just fun. So it doesnt have a great deep plot, so what. It was great. Loved the dancing and the little nuances that make it great. AAA+++ If you liked Mama Mia, you will like this.

    Ordinary Escape to Maragritaville

by WestwoodPH on 12/5/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The singers and dancers were very good. A lot of energy and spirit on stage that I would expect for Glee, Oklahoma, or Music Man. But a trite story line...Boy meets girl on a vacation island, they fall in love, she leaves, he chases. Late twentyish, early thirtyish boy and girl singing jimmy's songs uptempo didn't cut it for me. Sparks as JD did sing in the Buffet sound but his was a very minor role. Just think of the Buffet songs without drunkeness, weed, high, laziness relaxation, and slowness. If you are expecting Mama Mia with the songs of ABBA or Beautiful with the songs of Carol King sung in their original sound....look elsewhere. A musical with enthusiastic dancing to familiar songs as lite entertainment....ok.

    Great Escape For Buffett Fans!

by Eyedoc44 on 12/5/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

One can never get enough Jimmy Buffett music! Escape is a 2 hr escape to a warmer tropical island, especially welcome as the days and nights turn cold! Think of Mamma Mia with Buffett music instead of ABBA music and you get the jist of Escape to Margaritaville. The audience is transported to that island and shown a place where people go to escape from the mundane, everyday life in the middle of the country. But then 2 of them escape for a bachelorette weekend to an island. And then we meet 2 guys who work at the resort the girls are going to, and their "job" is to make the guests happy. But the girls are not happy at home and the guys find that sometimes the guests they are "helping" are great people, and kind of fall in love, or at least lust. This is a wonderful show, and a CAN NOT MISS if the ear worm that is constantly playing in your head is a Buffett song!

Love the way it used the songs for the story.

by zbelle65 on 12/5/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I enjoyed it immensely! The Cheeseburger in Paradise scene is awesome! Some of it did feel rushed at times, needed a more paradise pace. Should encourage more audience participation!

A love story from a Buffett point of view

by techparrot on 12/5/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

This was an amazing show. Laughing and singing was involved. If you have never been to a concert it is a must see. If you are a Parrothead it is also a must see. It was a fun and witty performance. The incorporation of songs to a wonderful story line was beautifully done. If you get a chance, go and see this!

I went with a group and we all enjoyed it. It had a good story and loved how they used the lyrics to Jimmy’s songs to tell it. My toes were tapping and I was singing thru the whole performance. It was a very enjoyable night at the theater.

    Fantastic!!

by sade531 on 12/5/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The new Broadway musical from Jimmy Buffett is a fun escape to the tropics for Parrotheads and regular folk alike. There is something for everyone...comedy, romance, and zombies! The music is perfection and was interwoven into the story line brilliantly. A great party at the theater that you don't expect but are sure glad you were there.

by kdrago on 12/4/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Escape to Margaritaville was an amazing show that reminded me what it was and is all about. Not only as a dedicated Parrothead, but as a kind, thoughtful human. It made me smile a lot and sing...through the whole show.

    Escaped to Margaritaville

by HManfridgenson on 12/4/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The show was well done. It was a nice comedy and both my wife and I enjoyed it! I heard people didn't care for it in the beginning; however, they worked out the bugs. It was a great show. I would go see this. Jimmy even graced the Chicago audience last week.

    Show was amazing!

by AnnWood on 12/4/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I am a huge Jimmy Buffett fan, love his music, see him in concert when I can, and when the opportunity came up to see Escape to Margaritaville at the Oriental Theater front row seats, I jumped at it! It was very well done. Jimmy's songs actually came to life in the performance! Some I had no idea was going to be tied into the show and it was done so well! I laughed so hard, I sang many of the songs, and thoroughly enjoyed the performance! I will definitely see this show again when it's back in the Chicago area.

    A fun evening!

by Pattysoxfan1 on 12/4/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Even if you're not a Jimmy Buffet fan, you'll be thoroughly entertained. The first act lagged a little, but the second made up for it. Great voices and good acting all around.

    Just the escape we needed

by LindaK2 on 12/4/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

This play was a perfect blend of humor with a good story line and the music of Jimmy Buffet. It transported my friends & me away from our daily routines and challenges back to the fun time we had on vacation. The cast was energetic, chemistry between them good, and their vocals were great. We left the theater with smiles on our faces and songs in our hearts & heads. It provided us with the "Escape" we needed.
