New York City Football Club History

New York City FC first began play in 2015, after the 20th MLS franchise was awarded in 2013. NYCFC has a strong connection with the New York Red Bulls, with their rivalry known as the Hudson River Derby.

After finding their footing during their inaugural season, New York City FC reeled off three playoff appearances in a row, making the Eastern Conference semi-finals in 2016, 2017 and 2018. The New York City FC roster was quickly built around international stars such as David Villa and Frank Lampard, giving the team credibility and a solid reputation from the very beginning. Villa, who before joining New York City FC helped lead Spain to the 2010 FIFA World Cup title, had an immediate and lasting impact on the club. He led the team in scoring in each of his four seasons and won the 2016 Landon Donovan MLS MVP Award before leaving to play in Japan for Vissel Kobe after the 2018 MLS season.

In 2021, NYCFC claimed their first MLS Cup championship behind 2021 Golden Boots winner Valentín “Taty” Castellanos and the MVP goalkeeper Sean Johnson. A year later, New York won the annual Campeones Cup match.

    by D. A. on 3/14/20Red Bull Arena - Harrison

Great experience to access to the parking lot, Stadium and seats. Needs to have more supervision at the food and drinks stations, there was a 10ft line and took me 40 minutes to get a drink. Lost 20 minutes of the second half.

Half of the stadium was closed

    by R. d. on 2/29/20Red Bull Arena - Harrison

Half of the stadium, including its vendors, was closed so the lines for food and restrooms were absolutely ridiculous.

The only thing that was great was the weather!

    by E. M. on 10/31/19Citi Field - Flushing

NYC FC played terribly and the field was as bad as Yankee stadium for a soccer game. Maybe they should give up and play at Red Bulls arena like the Jets/Giants do!

    A trip to the Bronx

by Hammerhawk on 9/26/19NYCFC at Yankee Stadium - Bronx

Third vist to NYC but first visit to the Yankee Stadium. Went uptown on the subway from 33rd Street and got off at 161st which brings you right outside the iconic stadium. I pre booked 4 tickets from Ticketmaster and opted to collect (Will Calling) at the ticket office. Took ID and the bank card I booked with and it took no time at all to get my tickets. Had great seats and although the soccer pitch is slightly offset to fit in a Baseball ground we still had a perfect view. It was nice to have the biggest can of Bud Light while you watched (which you can't do in England) and we dipped into a Giant $20 Value Bucket (Chicken & Fries) at half time. The match itself was decent, with New York City beating San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 to keep themselves on top of the division. All in all a great experience which all four of us really enjoyed.

rude staff, some of them are not friendly

by Meme on 9/18/19NYCFC at Yankee Stadium - Bronx

Some of the staff are rude and treat people with bad attitude. I was getting just in to the stadium and I stopped in front of the section just before went down to the seats, and I was waiting for my friends that went to the bathroom and this rude guy come to me and a friend and say to move away from there but in very bad attitude, this was either second or third time that happen.
