NHRA Drag racing at Sonoma is an assault on your senses! Nothing compares to the power of Nitro Dragsters and Funny Cars. You feel it as much as hear and see it. 10,000 Horsepower each and two running side by side at over 320 Miles Per Hour, AWESOME!
Love going to NHRA events! The traffic leaving the event is horrible! Some major changes are needed to leaving this venue!
always have fun, enjoy the family atmosphere every year that we come to the race!!! we will keep coming back for years to come! thanks sonoma!!!
A beautiful day for making horsepower, and sitting less than 100 feet from the starting line, WOW. To watch 16,000 Horsepower... to feel 16,000 Horsepower, go from a dead stop to over 300 miles per hour, rules all of your senses. This isn't the first time I've gone to the NHRA at Sonoma. It is the first time I've been that close to the starting line. I will do it again. What an experience!!!
Just love going to the drag races at Sonoma. Shuttle was a great asset for us. Always had the thought of seeing the races a little later during the evening and this may not be a feasible idea for the racers, but the excitement of seeing the flames rise out of the exhaust would be exhilarating!
I understand that a multi-use facility has to do its best at squeezing all the events into one location, however, the distance between the main grandstand and the strip is just too far away; the seating on the East side of the track would have been more preferable for the full nitro experience. I've been to Vegas where you can expect to get flakes of rubber on your white shirt, Seattle is inevitable you'll walk away knowing you've been at a drag race, but the distance between the main grandstand and the strip just doesn't give you the FULL blast experience that can be found at the other two strips. Parking was another disappointment. Not knowing the track layout, I arrived early like with the other two tracks, expecting the early-bird gets the worm by filling the lots from the entrance gate outward, but soon found this is not the option for general parking at Sonoma. No biggie, the shuttles were running regularly and we were taken straight to the gate with no wait at all. Knowing what we were facing on the return trip, we hung around for the ice cream social, stood around for the awards ceremony, then made a slow walk to catch a shuttle. YIKES!!! Seeing the line for the Red shuttle, we took off on foot and were confident we would still have been in the shuttle line by the time we arrived at the backup on Lakeside highway; one of the smartest things we did was to take a drive around wine country on Saturday, making the detour to Napa and highway 29 a familiar route. NHRA offers the best fan experience out of ANY race event we've been to, NASCAR or INDY included, and this was not diminished with Sonoma, other than the East grandstands would have been MUCH better for the full chest-pounding experience. Living in Montana, it's about equal expense to go to either Seattle, Vegas, or Sonoma, but with the wacky parking setup and exiting possibilities East on 37 or right to Lakeside highway (we stayed in Concord), I'll have to take Seattle, Vegas, and Sonoma in that order for future drag races. In no way should Sonoma raceway take any negative feedback from this, I was TOTALLY impressed that I received a June phone call from management inquiring about us moving down a seat to allow a couple and their kid (the situtation never materialized) to sit together, and EVERYONE working the race were as welcoming as could be. Thanks for a memorable weekend.
Beautiful weather, beautiful site, amazing racing. Can't beat that!
I had not been to the races in several years. The experience was awsome. The sights, sounds and smells were unforgetable. Facilities werre well maintaind. The restrooms were spotless. The staff were friendly. They did have some difficulty in giving us directions to our seats. I spoke with 4 people and they all said something different but we found the seats.
The way the seating diagram is titled, Tower Grandstands you look on the picture of the seating diagram and it shows two Towers, so you pay the higher price because you want to be in the Tower section at this race track, the seats have back and I have a bad back and cannot sit in bleachers. When we got there our high price seats were bleachers!!!! I asked the SOnoma representative and he said they-meaning Ticketmaster named them wrong because the name should be Grandstands not "tower" grandstands. VERY decieving and would not have paid that much for horrible bleacher seats, I wouldn't have gone if I knew I'd be sitting in bleachers. VERY Upset by this!
I wish the NHRA could do something about the lanes or maybe it Sonoma. To one sided for me.
My first trip to the Sonoma Drags (with my 7 year old Daughter) was unforgettable. TV does not do the event justice, since you cannot feel, hear and smell the real thing ! I will be a returning fan every year from here on our, although I will spend the extra money to sit in Grandstand. Sitting in the Towers was ok for me, but my daughter had to be hoisted above everyone else who was standing during the races.
We are from Texas and use to go to the races at Houston Raceway Park all the time. We have not had a chance to attend the NHRA races in about 10 years. We were lucky enough to be on vacation in San Fran while Sonoma Nationals were going. We could not have picked a better race and raceway to go to. Very clean facility and very friendly helpful people. We will put this on of list of places to come again!
This was our second year going to this event. This year my wife and I took our 15 year old daughter and she was amazed at the outrageous sights and sounds of the nitro cars! We were all star stuck walking through the pits seeing all of the people that you normally just see on tv. Definitely going back year after year!!
Awhsome! Be ready to change from shorts and tank tops to sweat pants and shirts, and mabey a jacket after dark.
We had a great time... It was my Fiance' first time to a NHRA race and she wants to go again next year, so I am a very happy guy! :-) I would like the NHRA to bring back the TAD/TAFC contingent.... OR bring us the PRO MOD Class instead. It sucks that we can't see Pro Mods on the West Coast!!!
Fantastic racing, excellent facilities, fun was had by all!
I thought it was asume I would pay to see this agian
This cannot be explained, you just have to go to witness the intensity of top fuel drag racing. When two funny cars hit the gas and go zero to 325 mph in less than four seconds. The sound literally assaults your entire body, they don't call them groundpounders for nothing. In one word it is awesome.
First time in over a decade to attend an NHRA Nationals event; was only able to be there on Saturday for qualifying, but the track, weather and the competiton was unforgettable...
