    Cinderella- not so magical.

by CrewFew on 12/19/17Birmingham Children's Theatre at the BJCC - Birmingham

I took my grandchildren to see Cinderella and was very disappointed in the show. I was aware that it would be a modern twist but was unaware it would be Drag Queen Twisted. The step sisters were not amusing and the sexual innuendos were unnecessary. This was a Children’s production and the children were confused. It was a let down to what should have been a magical addition to Christmas festivities. Please reconsider using this type and style of productions in the future.

    Cinderella

by EABJJ on 12/19/17Birmingham Children's Theatre at the BJCC - Birmingham

Took 5 granddaughters to see Cinderella. Actors did a fine job. Would have liked a heads-up on the liberal artistic license in this particular production. Granddaughters recognized immediately that the "evil Step-sisters" were portrayed by men. Spent a great deal of time explaining method acting to them. Will not recommend this production to anyone younger than 15.

    Awesome Show

by NonniAnja on 12/19/17Birmingham Children's Theatre at the BJCC - Birmingham

If you go to Children's Theater expecting Disney you will be disappointed. This show was unique and hilarious! I loved the interaction with the audience. I also loved that the casting has no race or gender boundaries . . . A white child with a black grandfather; men (one with a beard!) playing the stepsisters . . . I loved everything about it!!! My 5-year-old granddaughter loved it, too!!

    Very disappointed!

by BamaPRT on 12/19/17Birmingham Children's Theatre at the BJCC - Birmingham

I had no idea that it was not the original Cinderella story. The fact that the two step sister were played by guys was appalling! One of them even had a beard. There were many young children there, and if I had one with me, I would had walked out. In the future, please make it clear what the story truly is, so that I can make sure not to go to something like that again.

    Twisted Cinderella

by Kekewilson on 12/19/17Birmingham Children's Theatre at the BJCC - Birmingham

Unfortunately we did not read the fine print on display. Stepsisters were something out of a drag queen show. We left 20 minutes in to the show. Very disappointed.

    Disappointed

by Shockedgrandmother on 12/19/17Birmingham Children's Theatre at the BJCC - Birmingham

The play description did not prepare me for this show and if it had, I would not have taken my two young granddaughters to see it. While it was geared for children and invited audience participation, it was not the Cinderella story was expecting. The step-mother kept making inappropriate and lewd comments to a man in the audience. The two stepsisters were actually men dressed as women. One of them even had a beard. At one point, they commented about “it being a drag.” My granddaughters didn’t understand these comments and they enjoyed the play. However, we adults did understand and I felt the comments were neither appropriate or necessary for this to have been a nice play for small children.

Cinderella needed to be accurately advertised

by Daughterdad on 12/18/17Birmingham Children's Theatre at the BJCC - Birmingham

The show was entertaining but not at all what I thought we were going to see. The full title was “Cinderella: An Outrageous Fairy Tale” but it was advertised simply as Cinderella. We were shocked to learn that the step sisters were played by men and the content was not at all what we expected since the tickets and online info simply said Cinderella. Some of the humor was above the heads of my 4 and 6 year old daughters. At least one family sitting near us left early in the show as I’m sure they were also surprised by the content of the show.

    Disappointed

by Fessy on 12/13/17Birmingham Children's Theatre at the BJCC - Birmingham

I was very disappointed in the show! I was expecting a children's program and the Disney version of Cinderella. This was more of a comedy and not really for my 3 year old Granddaughter. We left early because she was not interested in the show.

    So disappointed

by slc1522 on 12/13/17Birmingham Children's Theatre at the BJCC - Birmingham

I purchased tickets for my 3 year old niece and myself. I was disappointed from the first scene to the end. Why are men dressed as women to play the evil stepsisters. I’m sure there are plenty of female actresses that are happy to play this role. I would never recommend this play!! So sad!!

    Not for Children

by Lisasen on 12/13/17Birmingham Children's Theatre at the BJCC - Birmingham

I was shocked that this was a Children's Theater play. My 5 year old Granddaughter had no idea what was going on. Many of the references made during the dialog were things that kids would not have any idea about. References to Nothing Bundt Cakes and Jalin Hurts. To me they made sense and were funny but to children they were not. I was disappointed because she was ready to leave half way through the play. I had to bribe her to stay by telling her we would go get ice cream afterwards.
