First act was disappointing. Could have been a lot better. BUT the 2nd act did pick up and ended up being a better than average performance.
I was rather disappointed in "An American in Paris" since I expected it to follow the story line of the movie, which it mostly did not. Another surprise was that the music was not all Gershwin. How can you improve on Gershwin? The actor who played Jerry was upstaged by the actor playing Henri since the latter's voice was much better and stronger. All in all, not the performance I was anticipating for my $160.
Great show! Amazing scenery. The sign language interpreters added another dimension of whimsy.
I always loved American in Paris the movie. This new musical was totally exciting, entertaining & beautiful. I thought the additional story line added depth to the show. Dancing was superb & singing just fantastic. I especially loved Adam who was so vulnerable & funny. When the 3 male leads sang together it was heavenly. S'wonderful all around
Fabulous music & dancing with spectacular sets! However, no character development & no storyline that holds up so in the end, you just don't care..
An American in Paris was absolutely delightful and enjoyable. The story, the singing, dancing, and humor were first class. It's now my favorite play and I would see it again.
My husband and I just loved this production. We were not big fans of the movie and so did not know what to expect but this was so much better than the movie. In particular, the dancing was superb and simply mesmerizing. The ballerina was outstanding, so beautiful and graceful, and the ensemble dancers had so much variety and were such fun to watch. Kudos to the choreographer. Also, the scenery added so much to this production. The actual movie seemed way too long but this play was so great that you did not want it to end.
This was my first musical play in my life. I have read about them and always wanted to go to one so my mother came from California to visit and I thought this was the perfect time to go see one. I choose An American in Paris because of its reviews. I really enjoyed it and so did my mother. I would watch it again.
Beautiful costumes, exquisite choreography, fantastic sets, and most importantly talented actors, made The American in Paris a wonderful and entertaining experience.
