YO LA TENGO IN CONCERT:

Indie rock pioneers Yo La Tengo have brought a sophisticated edge to underground rock for the past 30 years, and they show no signs of slowing down in terms of creativity or quality. The band's eclectic sound touches on everything from meditative serenity to noisy punk aggression, and they're just as likely to groove on soulful ditties like “Mr. Tough” as brooding folk ragas like “Before We Run”. Frontman Ira Kaplan skillfully navigates these diverse genres with effortless confidence,  bringing insightful gems like "Autumn Sweater" and "Cherry Chapstick" to life with his breathy vocals, world-wise lyrics, and experimental guitar techniques. With audiences and critics still unraveling the lyrical complexity and musical diversity of their 2015 album Stuff Like That There, Yo La Tengo are sure to offer a soul-searching and heart-racing concert experience for ticket buyers whenever they go on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Husband and wife duo Ira Kaplan (vocals/guitar/keys) and Georgia Hubley (percussion/vocals) began making music together as Yo La Tengo -- Spanish for “I’ve got it!” -- in 1984. The Hoboken, NJ couple originally went through several lineup changes on their way to releasing their 1986 debut Ride the Tiger. The duo began to pick up commercial success with the 1989 release of President Yo La Tengo, which also kicked off a long love affair with music critics that continues to this day. The band finally settled on a consistent bassist/backing vocalist/multi-instrumentalist in James McNew, who joined the group on their 1992 album May I Sing with Me. The solidified lineup explored electronic instrumentation during the ‘90s, and remained fruitful as elder statesmen of the exploding indie scene in the ‘00s. In recent years the band has continued to experiment both on stage and in the studio, thrilling devoted fans and new converts alike as they continue to make some of the most restlessly creative and eclectic music available.

    Excellent as always!

    by Mark on 2/17/24Rialto Theatre-Tucson - Tucson

YLT were excellent as always. Ranging from quieter than the Cowboy Junkies to noisier than Sonic Youth, they played two sets of great music, plus some encores. Looking forward to seeing them again on their next tour!

Tight Band with Next Level Guitar Craziness

by Bill J on 2/13/24The Bellwether - Los Angeles

We checked out the Yo La Tengo show at the Bellwether Theatre on Saturday night and were totally wow'd! After 17 albums, this Indie Rock band isn't well known, but they do have a loyal cult-like following, and Ira Kaplan is a mad scientist on guitar. The band is incredibly tight and the woman on drums is great (Georgia Hubley)! Normally they're a 3 piece, but Saturday they had a second drummer and it added another dimension to the sound. Kaplan is a really soulful player on guitar... and then he literally goes off the rails on every song, but in a virtuoso kinda way. I've never seen anyone play so hard and do such insane things with a guitar!!! This was an amazing night out and cost only $200 for 2 people including tickets to the show, parking, and dinner & drinks at the restaurant inside the Bellwether. The Bellwether is fast becoming one of my favorite music venues in LA! It's a good size, holding over 1500 people, but an intimate and cost effective place to see big acts!

    Good Sound / Odd Parking

by Musicmatters42 on 2/13/24The Bellwether - Los Angeles

This was my first time (and not last) at the Bellwether. The audio quality at the venue is high quality. Yo La Tengo never disappoints. The available designated parking lot isn't large enough to accommodate a 1,600 capacity venue. We left our car in the surrounding area, hoping it would still be there after the gig. It was. Whew!

    Great venue and music

by Frank G on 2/13/24The Bellwether - Los Angeles

First time going to the Bellwether, and I was extremely impressed with the sound quality and overall venue architecture. It was a great show and a unique experience because of Fred Armisen playing with the band. Yo La Tengo put on a great show showcasing over 30 years of material.

    Worst I’ve ever see

by Han on 2/12/24The Fillmore - San Francisco

Cannot believe I spent so much money on these tickets. Sounded like the entire band was drunker than hell and there was no melody to be heard the entire set. Honestly everyone who attended that show should be refunded.

by jolo on 2/11/24The Fillmore - San Francisco

    Nosotros La Tenemos

by AdamH on 12/14/23Bowery Ballroom - New York

Ira and the Gang never fail to take us away to another planet where everything is better than ok. And they somehow all manage to improve their musicianship year after year. And I still say Georgia evokes a softer Nico, a natural tranquilizer if ever there was....another well chosen guest Steve Gunn and Ira guitar work complemented each other perfectly. Wow

    Amazing show

by Fwank on 12/12/23Bowery Ballroom - New York

A great Yo La Tengo show. The openers were their old friends Lambchop. A killer psychedelic 11-piece with a horn section. They joined YLT for most of their set. A mix of ethereal dream pop and all out hallucinatory stomps. It was awesome.

    They got it

by Suz on 6/21/23State Theatre - Portland

Every song perfect not a beat skipped or a bad note. Been waiting years to see this band and they did not disappoint. Sure helps that their latest CD is fantastic. Amazing how much great music just 3 people can make.

    Good vibe

It was an interesting experience, never been to an indie rock concert, definitely changed my perspective on that kind of music.
