The quality of the actors, staging, and subject matter were superb. I would highly recommend this play.

    Working made you feel proud

by meadow9 on 6/13/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Took my son and his girlfriend (both in their twenties) and we were all amazed with the acting, singing, score and stage set-up. Loved the musicians in the side balcony- very talented.

Working - the BEST Musical I have ever seen!!!!!!!

by Dorsey312 on 6/8/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

THIS is a musical worth traveling to a different city to see! It moved me (and guests seated all around me) to tears, multiple times! This musical gives you insight and perspective into the lives, challenges and triumphs of people who work in office cubicles, teachers, truck drivers, waitresses, steel workers, homemakers, financiers, hamburger delivery people and more. Audience members are left contemplating pride in one's work and passion for one's career, stopping to consider the people who built the buildings we work in, the paths that we have all chosen, the drive, and the destiny of workers everywhere - truly stunning musical theater! Studs Terkel would be proud!

    Working

by ntod on 6/7/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This was a fabulous production! The talented actors were superb. Their ability to transform into a variety of characters, in addition to their powerful singing----WOW! I have wanted to see this musical since the 1980's, and did recommend it to as many people as possible. Wouldn't have been possible if not for Hot Tix. I love theatre, but unfortunately it's getting too pricey for me.

"Working" is unique and a fitting tribute!

by ChitownTheaterFan on 6/7/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Working is an interesting conversion to the stage of a Studs Turkel tribute to working people. The music is outstanding, the cast is extremely talented and the energy very high, making the entire show an experience that ends too soon.

Touching and funny. What a great show.

by Nicky66 on 6/7/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This show is timeless. It is funny, it is touching and it makes you think about what you do for a living and how it does and does not define a person. Too bad it closed early I may have gone to see it again.

    Working was right on!

by Meidel on 6/6/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

We came for a retirement celebration. Every character portrayal was terrific. We all could relate to each character and the emotional swings from pure laughter to a deep sense of caring was amazing. We talked about the show all night, at our celebration dinner and how it related to everything we know and do every day. We walked away feeling proud and how we impact lives everyday, we can't forget that! The staging, music, and imagery that was projected throughout the show was the perfect backdrop for the exceptional cast.

The music and performers were great, good for every age group

Singers had amazing voices and really reflected the characters they portrayed. Definitely made me think about how jobs either support or disrupt our emotional needs. However, the play was too long - perhaps an intermission would have helped (saw a few people nodding off). Only gave it 3 stars because the viewer needs to be in the right state of mind.

    First-Rate Acting, Clever Staging

by MEBCAUX on 6/4/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

The cast were amazingly versatile and uniformly superb. They provide a brilliant demonstration of the degree to which really fine actors, under excellent direction, can render fairly ordinary material transcendent. The book is, of course, at times very powerful, and, at other times, less so. When it tracks the original book on which it is based, and incorporates verbatim speeches from the book, it hits on all cylinders. The music is typical of modern musicals, pleasant but devoid of any highly memorable melodies, adequate to the task to delivering the message. I do not mean to damn with faint praise, however. This show is not to be missed. It is wonderful.
