Brilliant at many levels....plot, performances, set design, music. The casting was inspired, the set changes were very creative and the orchestra did a wonderful job. The images and the message of the play remain with you, well after it's over.

The Ford Theater is a wonderful venue to watch and listen to a musical. The singing was simply outstanding. We especially thought the character Flick had an incredible voice. The storyline also kept our interest.

The show was extremely breathtaking! I decided to watch the show on my birthday, and so my family and I had such a wonderful time watching it. Thank you for making my birthday so much interesting and fun!

It was a very well done. The actors performed well. i loved the props used for the play. theater has come a long way.

I had purposefully not read much about this production before I saw it - I wanted to experience it for the first time for myself. It was terrific: a touching story, excellent (and varied) music, inventive staging, and a first-rate cast. Erin Driscoll is a riveting presence, giving a tenacious performance as Violet. Kevin McAllister has a powerful voice and an easy-going charm just right for Flick. James Gardiner's Monty walks a fine line between sleaze and sincerity. Among the supporting cast, Bobby Smith makes a strong contribution as Father, Lauren Williams is spot-on as Young Vi, and Nora Y. Payton and Kellee Knighten Hough soar vocally.

Violet was a wonderful, touching story set amidst a background of great southern rock and gospel music. Performances were great all around, from lead actors to supporting roles!

We haven't been to Fords' theater in a long time, and were surprised how intimate it felt. The play itself had some really lovely songs. We were surprised about the choices for makeup (don't want to spoil the effect for anyone).

The topic was extremely thought-provoking: a disfigured young lady from Appalachia who blames her father for the accident that led to the disfigurement; who comes to an understanding that her father would do anything to have prevented the accident. Her travel by bus to a mega-preacher who holds healing services, and her discovery that he is a fraud; her discussions on the journey with two soldiers--one who wants her just for her body, the other who wants her for her sensitivity and compassion, but who can't have her due to bi-racial prejudices in 1960s America. The way the stage was set up so that you looked straight on at present events but through a raised gauze to peer into the past, was extremely effective.

Actors and music were good. Story was lame. Songs were forgettable.

Great story and show. Terrific voices and performances. The way they designed the sets/backdrop were very nice (less is more). Venue is unique.

This was my boyfriend's first musical, and although I think he liked it, I am not so sure I did. Don't get me wrong, the cast and performances were EXCELLENT, but the story/plot was boring. The description said it was going to be about civil rights. Instead, it's about a girl thinking that she's ugly and falling in love with a guy that convinces her otherwise. There were a total of 2 lines that related to civil rights. I just didn't like the story at all. And the songs were not very memorable. The opening song was decent, but it dropped from there. But well worth it just to see something in Ford's Theatre - what a beautiful theatre!

Five of us went from our family, and we all loved it. The acting and singing were wonderful. We especially liked Erin Driscolli in the title role, James Gardiner as Monty, Kevin McAllister as Flick, and Nova Y. Payton as the Music Hall Singer/Mabel.

The music was great. The actors were great. LOVED the set - seeing flashbacks behind the sheer backdrop. Loved the use of the photos of 1960's small town America. The story got a little tedious (worried about her facial deformity).

The actors and singing was very good, performances could have been good but the play itself should never have seen the light of day.

This play was painfully predictable and simplistic in its moral tale. The characters could better be described as caricatures: the angry young woman, the inept but loving father, the white soldier who is a jerk, the black soldier who has a true and honest heart, the unrepentant phony faith healer. The singing was okay, the music not at all as advertised. On another related topic, there are only 6 stalls in the ladies' restroom, surely far under the legal limit for the size of the audience allowed in the theater.

Great show and great story with great music.....enjoyed every minute of it!
