It was outstanding
by Concert Goer on 5/18/22SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center - SacramentoThe choir was excellent and very expressive- I absolutely loved how you can feel the passion radiating off of the conductor. It was interesting to see a conductor without a stand in-front of them and that the entire work was memorized while still being able to remember the small details was so impressive. The soloists were outstanding, the soprano had such a heavy colorful voice and her floated high notes were gorgeous. The tenor was extremely expressive and was a joy to watch perform and had a very “real” voice- it sounded like a gateway into his true emotions. The bass was jarring at first- I was confused looking around trying to figure out who was singing- where was this voice coming from? He sings without moving his mouth much at all- nearly like a ventriloquist, but this isnt a bad thing at all because the rest of his face and body language was expressive and his voice was so full of emotion and the music was communicated to the audience beautifully. The mezzo i’m all honesty could have had a better performance- it felt as though she was under the rest of the soloists for the majority of the time and she looked nervous and unsure and didn’t portray the same connection to the music as the other soloists did. Overall it was just outstanding though, it is a masterfully written piece and this performance did it justice.
