    Shoebox bouncers suck!

by 7ryder on 5/24/11Showbox at the Market - Seattle

So we show up for the show and my friend and I each had an empty Sigg water bottle in our bags and they wouldn't let us in the show...they expected us to throw these away in order to get in! I can understand not letting us in with beverages bought elsewhere, but empty Sigg water bottles? Sheesh! So, the choice was not use $20 tickets or throw away water bottles that cost more than $20, we chose not using the tickets and missed, what we heard, was a great show showbox sucks!!! So do your bouncers!

    Dulli's a stone cold killer

by suzela on 5/23/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

In any incarnation or configuration, at any given show (and I've seen lots of 'em), no one brings it like Dulli. Smooth, sexy and rocks it like the best of them. Every.Single.Time. If you haven't already, go see him play live. Get up close. But be warned, there'll be no turning back.

They delivered what was expected out of them. Good humor. Powerful / LOUD performance. Great set list.

    unforgettable

by ncm1976 on 5/15/11Webster Hall - New York

I arrived at Webster Hall not knowing what to expect from the Twilight Singers. I have been a fan of their music for some time, but I am often dissapointed when I see an act perform live. They do not dissapoint. In my expeience, it is a rarity to see such a passion displayed for the craft as displayed by Greg Dulli and the Twilight Singers. They clearly enjoy what they do, and the crowd responds accordingly. They did a great job mixing their classic songs with tracks from the new album and sprinkled in some covers and preludes that made the show unique. It was fantastic. The opening act was a band called Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos, who I had never heard from and had no interest in seeing. I'm glad I got to the venue early, because in addition to the Twilight Singers amazing set, they also inspired the crowd with an awsome set of their own. I am now a fan of theirs as well.

I've seen Dulli live in his various iterations (Twilight Singers, Gutter Twins, sadly not the Whigs though....) over the years. One thing I have never seen him do is take a night off. But even by his lofty standards for energy and passion, this show was amazing. I also love the way he had a subtle background change throughout the show. Dark skies, sunrise, seedy backstreets...it really added to the atmosphere. Beginning to end, he kept the pedal to the metal and didn't let up. Absolutely tore the roof off Webster Hall over the 1:45 he played. He wove in his traditional medleys (Tom Petty's "Breakdown" was unexpected, Kayne's "All of the Lights" was not) and kept the audience on their toes. Can't say enough about his performance.
