About

TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS IN CONCERT:

As pioneers of heartland rock in the late-'70s, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers championed a no-frills, guitar-driven sound that set them apart from the increasingly technology-oriented approach of much of the era's pop music. Today Tom Petty & Co. are as relatable as ever, treating fans to their classic songs about working class issues and everyday American life with a passion and flair that belie their years. Whether Petty is dancing across the stage with a pair of maracas or lending his iconic voice to hits like "American Girl" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance," he and the band never fail to electrify at their live shows, and their 2014 tour dates with special guest Steve Winwood will be no different.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

After playing in several other Gainesville, FL bands in the early-'70s, Tom Petty formed the Heartbreakers in 1976. The band's self-titled debut initially failed to gain traction in the US, but American audiences eventually caught wind of its popularity in the UK, leading to the 1978 re-release of early single "Breakdown" to a Top 40 spot. In 1979 the band scored their true US breakthrough with the hits "Refugee" and "Don't Do Me Like That," That", the latter becoming their first Top 10 hit. A series of successful albums followed in the '80s, earning the band an impressive string of hits as well as a supporting slot on Bob Dylan's '86/87 True Confessions world tour. Their chart run continued in the '90s with No. 1's like "Learning to Fly" and "You Don't Know How It Feels", which earned Petty a Grammy in 1996 for Best Rock Vocal Performance. Nearly four decades after their debut, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will continue to treat fans to their exceptional live show on their latest tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"A great walk down memory lane. The Heartbreakers played like they were all still 30 years old. Tom Petty can really belt those songs out. Rock on!"

"The show was awesome. Tom Petty was amazing and the Heartbreakers rocked! I would love to see the whole show again!"

"The show was excellent with a great mix of old, new, and some obscure/rarely heard tracks. Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers never disappoint."

    Wish I sold My tickets....

by Trailwaif on 9/29/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Lucinda Williams was marginal. She has one great song, Protection. It was downhill from there. The band is awesome tho. Tom Petty came out late, the audience was so enthusiastic they sang along to every hit and I couldn't hear the singers on stage. Sound was muddy where I was, heard the keyboard player less frequently than I would have expected. People shut up during the Wildflowers album mini set tunes and I could actually hear guitars and vocals. Left during Refugee. I go to hear the band, not the idiots around me. At least I got to hear Don't Come Around Here No More. But missed The Waiting and I Need to Know. Worst experience at the bowl so far. Never again- It was great for Peter Gabriel.

    Fantastic Venue and Concert

by LAlmh on 9/28/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I love the Hollywood Bowl and it never disappoints. Tom Petty gave an amazing performance sounding wonderful and sharing stories about the band's beginning. Lucinda Williams who opened was not my cup of tea, but enough people in the audience seemed to enjoy her so she was by no means unworthy of the bowl.

    Tired?

    by CHILL123 on 9/28/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Honestly I was disappointed in the show. Too many songs from one long ago album, so many other great songs that could have been performed. I had high hopes that since this was the last show of the tour that it would be high energy and awesome. But instead, to me, Tom was tired and so was Lucinda. Heartbreakers were great! I saw Tom about 10 years ago and every song was a "hit" and had everyone on their feet. I get that artist may tire of singing the same "hit" songs, but for the audience members who paid a hefty price for the tickets, we want to hear the hit songs to which we know every word and brings back great memories. Just my humble opinion!

    Good but could’ve been great

by Anonymous on 9/28/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I love Tom Petty music but have never seen them. I had very high expectations I bought great seats and was hyped for the a great show. Unfortunately they decided not to play at least 6 of there most popular songs and played for just under 2 hours. If they added a few more classics need to know, don’t do me like that, here comes my girl to name a few it would’ve meet expectations. Unfortunately I walked out feeling a bit disappointed. Still a good show but definitely not what I had hoped!

Great show from a rock n roll legend!

    by BigLarry68 on 9/28/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Went into this show knowing Petty was going to bring it, but didn't anticipate just how hard. Man, what a show! You take an iconic venue like the Hollywood Bowl and put Petty in there and you have the recipe for an unforgettable night. Truly glad I got to experience this show considering Tom saying this could be his last tour. Sincerely hope he changes his mind but if he doesn't, I will be glad I can always look back on this show! BONUS: It was especially cool to witness the chemistry of Petty jamming with original band members Benmont Tench & Mike Cambell. The extended bluesy version of Breakdown was my favorite!

    Disappointing

by Unclerooster on 9/28/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I was really expecting a great night. Yhe Hollywood Bowl on a warm night=heaven on earth!! I love the music of Tom Petty and his amazing band. Too bad most of the music this night wasn't from his "greatest hits" playlist. That comment made by many others as we were leaving "The Bowl." Most disappointing concert I've been to.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are awesom!!!

by Jimimax on 9/28/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Attended Thursday Night and the Monday Night Shows. Couldn't ask for more (well I could!!) but Bowl time constrictions weigh in heavily. Could've been the record, they sounded so good! Wanted "Making Some Noise", but I won't hold it against them!
