About

Abel Tesfaye, who performs under the moniker The Weeknd, emerged shrouded in mystery in 2012, when he uploaded three tracks to YouTube that picked up near-immediate buzz -- despite the fact that nothing was known about the artist who posted them.

The tracks eventually got the attention of fellow Toronto artist Drake, who linked to the songs via his blog. Before the year was out, the songs were getting great write-ups on the music-hipster bible Pitchfork and in The New York Times.

The Weeknd followed up the next year with three mixtapes -- House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echos of Silence-- that served to ramp up his profile further. In the midst of the critical kudos, he made his first concert performances, including collaborations with Drake. The three mixtapes eventually became the first Weeknd album, 2011's Trilogy.

The Weeknd's sound has been described as hipster R&B (or PBR&B to some), and his tracks have sampled a huge range of artists from indie-rockers Beach House to R&B megastar Rihanna. His slow grooves and falsetto croon create a beautiful and sometimes creepy backdrop for what are often sexually-charged lyrics.

On tour, Tesfaye re-creates his recorded music with some live backing musicians' help and usually can be counted on to bring an eye-popping light show. Fans consistently give Tesfaye kudos for the quality and depth of his live vocals.

The Weeknd seems a natural onstage, even when the stages he's playing are huge. Hard to believe that his 2013 album, Kiss Land, was just his second.

Though his star continues to rise, he's remained an enigmatic figure who avoids magazine and TV interviews. Fans basically have three ways to get to know him better: listen to his music, read his Twitter feed, pick up some tickets and see him in concert.

The Weeknd on Tour - After Hours World Tour

The Weeknd announced his new headline world tour, The After Hours Tour, starting Jun 11, 2020 on the heels of his upcoming album, After Hours. The tour showcases state of the art production and one of the most innovative stage designs to date, containing the most LED lights and video for an arena show. The 104-date global tour will kick off on Jan 14 in Vancouver at Pepsi Live at Rogers Arena with stops in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, Paris, Berlin and more, before

wrapping Nov 16 in London at The O2.

The worldwide tour announcement comes just days ahead of the multi-platinum singer’s headlining Super Bowl halftime performance (Sunday, Feb 7) and includes a handful of rescheduled dates shifting from 2021 a part of the After Hours World Tour in 2022.

    Best Show I’ve Seen

    by L. W. on 3/14/23

This was the best concert experience I ever had even having seats that were far from the stage. The experience was magical- the light up wrist bands, the moon, the stage background and pyrotechnics made the experience so much more interactive. He has an amazing live singing voice and sounds identical to his recordings. Played hits from Dawn Fm, After hours, Starboy, MDM, even Kissland and House of Balloons. Don’t miss a Weeknd concert!! XO

    Surreal Experience

    by Sofie C on 2/28/23

I’ve been a fan of Abel aka The Weeknd since I was 13 years old. I’m 21 now going on 22 this year and still a FAN. Abel’s sounds and harmonies are like anything other than any artist every artist can have similarities but The Weeknd’s pop, r&b, electric tunes have a clash that just makes since. Not many people can pull that off but he does it with natural essence and grace. I will forever be a fan!!! Oh and this was my first concert by him unfortunately I missed Starboy but I’m thankful I finally got to witness him in person.
