If you want to see a band that doesn't make your ears ring, then this wasn't the show for you! This was the 8th time I have seen the Donnas and, as always, they didn't disappoint. The set list was heavy with their last two releases - "Bitchin" and "Greatest Hits...Vol. 16", but the usual staples were there - "Take It Off", "Who Invited You"and "Fall Behind Me". I love when the Donnas are the headliners!
Brett Anderson continues to be a wonderful mix of Paul Stanley's charisma and David Lee Roth's stage presence. She takes control of the show when she busts on to the stage from "Bitchin" until the last note of "Take It Off".
Allison Robertson is one of the most under-rated guitar virtuosos in rock music today. It is nothing less than awesome watching her melt faces during her solos on stage. She can play. Period.
Maya Ford brought the thunder and a little comic relief as Brett's microphone shorted out.
Amy Cesari, who has replaced Torry Castellano due to injury, seems to bang on the skins a little harder than Torry. It must just be habit from rocking with her own band, The Demonics.
That being said - the show was on a Monday and my ears didn't stop ringing until Wednesday afternoon. If your ears don't ring, then it really isn't a rock show!
So why didn't I give this 5 stars after such high praise? The venue sucked! The ceiling was leaking on the stage and in the crowd. I don't know if it was from the water or not, but Brett's microphone shorted out and her feedback monitor blew up. I hate the Rex and it is even in my hometown!
