one of my new favorite bands. i cant believe that the show wasnt sold out. if you missed them last week, you owe it to yourself to see these guys next time they are in town.
Didn't really know the music, but was going to support the Mpls band. So I liked some some songs and not others, so that is personal preference. But the crowd was cool. It's wasn't too crowded so it was very laid back. The only thing was it that the show was over by 10:30, so the set was super short. Not sure if that is their thing but I thought it was kinda odd.
The Jackpot is an awfully small place for such a great band. I was surprised there weren't more in attendance. The size of the venue couple with our very close proximity to the stage made the lyrics completely unintelligible. In fact, most of the time you couldn't hear the vocals at all, you could only verify their existence by watching him at the mic. It wasn't a deal breaker for me because I knew the songs well enough to know what he was saying. The only other issue was the lack of an encore. This left me completely incredulous. The band rocked and everyone bolted for the door immediately upon the close of the first set. I was standing there with a handful of other people staring at the deserters in disbelief. When a good band plays a good set, you encore. That is the rule. Otherwise, we had a great time and had a unique experience with one of our favorite bands.
Saw these guys a few years ago in Pittsburgh, and they have really grown since then. Still have the energy of a new-to-the-stage band and have a nice stage presence. Totally dug this show!
Amazing!! Complete energy and good, nice long set...
I cannot believe how bad the mixing was. The bass and drums were so loud, I almost puked and the keyboard and vocals could barely be heard. I am a HUGE fan of Tapes N Tapes and I could not even recognize the music I was listening to. I really hope someone will take responsibility for ruining what would be a great show and allowing XYLOS to steal it. Really, huge waste of time and money. If you are thinking "you were just in a bad spot," you are wrong. I went upstairs, in the front, in the back, and on the elevated platform on the right. I wish they would have listened to me a friend yelling "VOCALS UP" for the first 4 songs. Bottom Line: Loved the venue, hated the sound and mixing. Not an enjoyable performance.
Drummer was incredible. Played with precision and skill. I think the rest of the band needs to catch up and clean up. A bit like a jam session and not like a performance. Sound guy needs to help out too. Hard to hear vocals over the guitar even though he was giving it his all. They'll get there. Album is solid.
