Syracuse Orange Football at JMA Wireless Dome

The big, echoing Loud House is one of college sports' most iconic venues, a response to a question that no one was asking, but everyone was delighted to learn the answer to: What would it be like if sports were played in an enormous bubble? Syracuse's football, basketball and lacrosse teams all do battle under the signature inflatable roof of the JMA Wireless Dome. The stadium opened in 1980, with an HVAC company lending its name (but not its air-conditioning units, as many sweaty fans have noticed over the years). Today, the JMA Wireless Dome is the largest domed stadium on any college campus, with a seating capacity for football games of nearly 50,000. In 2018, the university announced it would do away with the bubble roof, replacing it with a fixed roof, parts of which would be translucent.

If you're going to a game, be sure to check out the statue of Syracuse great Ernie Davis, the first black man to win a Heisman Trophy. It's located between the JMA Wireless Dome and the nearby quad. And don't forget to do a Dome Stomp in the channels of the stadium's outer walls. Stand in one of the grooves, jump up and slam your feet on the ground. You'll make your own thunder.

Syracuse Orange Football History

Since its founding in 1889, Syracuse football has racked up more than 700 wins and one consensus national championship (for the 1959 season). More than anything, though, it is best known for the players who've passed through this part of Central New York. Look no further than the guys who've worn Syracuse's No. 44. They include three of the greatest running backs ever to put on cleats: Jim Brown (a lacrosse superstar as well), Ernie "The Elmira Express" Davis and Floyd Little (who broke the rushing records set by Davis and Brown before him).

    Parents weekend

by Papo on 10/12/21Carrier Dome - Syracuse

The event was good. The seats were not that comfortable as they were steel with a low back support. I would like for the website to distinguish if the seats are aisle or not. That would be very helpful.

    Scary

    by Orangefan6 on 11/5/19Carrier Dome - Syracuse

At Security, and mobile tickets were gone! I had checked them in the app 15 minutes earlier and everything looked great. Spent a few tense moments with my kids watching, scrambling to make something work. Was finally able to go in through email. Whew! Bad loss for the Orange, but the Dome didn't disappoint my first timer kids!

College Football in Syracuse is a great experience.

by Lucas on 10/24/19Carrier Dome - Syracuse

This was great like usual. try it at least once if you are a football fan. The combo Syracuse & Buffalo in the same week-end is the best.

    Awesome Game

by SUFootball on 10/23/18Carrier Dome - Syracuse

One of the best games I have ever seen played. Would definitely go again, the price of the tickets were well worth the location of where we watched the game. Ticketmaster made it so easy to order and receive the tickets I will be using them again in the future

With no AC in the place it was a swampy sweaty mess. Left after Halftime. Shame we wasted $150.00 for our 3 Tickets. With the Dome named after an AC company it’s a shame they have NONE

    Carrier Dome

    by WK222222 on 9/18/18Carrier Dome - Syracuse

This is the worst venue for a football game that I ever went to!! It was 84 F inside the "Carrier" Dome - funny that Carrier is the name of the Dome ! It was a sweatbox! How can a Division 1 school have such a venue. The sound system is so bad, all you hear are echos ! During every time time out the Syracuse public relations were taking and with the sound system so bad, it was so annoying! I would not go back to that stadium until it is torn down and rebuilt !!

    GO SU

by sufanman on 11/14/17Carrier Dome - Syracuse

SU football is obviously still rebuilding its team after 10+ years of disappointment but even so we saw three quarters of exciting football played in one of the best stadiums in the nation. Built almost 40 years ago, SU's on campus Carrier Dome is a fantastic place to see a football game. Yes it is loud, even when not sold out. Every seat is close to the field. The third deck is a fantastic place to see a game! Its on campus location is the best part. The pre-game warm up on the main quad is not to be missed. There are party tents, cheerleaders, food, the marching band all having a good time. It is a nice on campus tailgate party. The Carrier Dome still serves beer and wine until the end of the half time break, maybe the only on-campus stadium to do so. Go early and find a parking lot near campus to the west and north of campus. Parking in the outer lots near Skytop and Manley is more of a hassle, you will have to take a crowded shuttle bus up the the campus. GO! ITS FUN!

    by MikeCl77 on 11/14/17Carrier Dome - Syracuse

The Dome is a great place to see a football game. Tickets were reasonable and even in the second section we could see the field real well. Any event there would be enjoyable!!

Good night at the Dome (even though my team lost)

    by Smithd70 on 10/20/17Carrier Dome - Syracuse

The Carrier Dome is a great place to watch college football. Great atmosphere and great, friendly fans. Even though the Orange beat my Clemson Tigers, I enjoyed the event. I just didn't enjoy the final outcome. My only suggestion is that they sell various alcoholic beverages at all concession stands. I was seated in section 115 but had to go all the way to section 104 for cider and mixed drinks. Beer was the only adult beverage offered at the stand right behind my section.

Our First Visit to the Carrier Dome - Meh.

    by French75 on 10/10/17Carrier Dome - Syracuse

We travelled to Syracuse from Pennsylvania for a football game at the Carrier Dome. We found just the seats we wanted on Ticketmaster, booked a hotel a few miles from the event and were excited about the trip. There were a few challenges. What to wear? The Dome is an indoor event. We observed a giant thermometer display and for our event it showed "80" all the time. So - a bit warm. Parking? We called the University parking people and were told that for the event, all parking lots are first-come, first served. The ones close in are by permit only The best bet was the University Avenue lot. That one is most likely to have space available on arrival, and a 1/2 mile plus walk through town and campus. We opted for the University-operated Skytop lot two miles away with shuttle busses. That worked for us. The Event Experience? Ok, our lasting memory will be the unsportsmanlike conduct of the home fans - booing and heckling visiting team players injured on the field. The behavior was loud and could be heard throughout the venue. In our section, two fans were especially obnoxious. One annoyed fan objected, resulting in a large group of men ganging up on HER. Security appeared to calm the confrontation. It's never OK to heckle injured players on the field. Lasting memory.

    Different end result desired

    by 17Gman on 11/22/16Carrier Dome - Syracuse

Being a Syracuse grad and team member, many years back, all of us wanted a different end to the game-a victory. But, Syracuse team is young and FSU is very good. Bad combination. Dome still is an exceptional venue to see a football game Been many times since graduation and will go again, next season.
