About

Delivered with a level of passion and soul equal to the legendary sonic charge of his guitar, the sound of Carlos Santana is one of the world's best-known musical signatures. For more than four decades - from Santana's earliest days as a groundbreaking Afro-Latin-blues-rock fusion outfit in San Francisco - Carlos has been the visionary force behind artistry that transcends musical genres, generational, cultural and geographical boundaries.

Long before the category now known as "world music" was named, Santana's ever-evolving sound has always been ahead of its time in its universal appeal, and today registers as ideally in sync with the 21st century's pan-cultural landscape. And, with a dedication to humanitarian outreach and social activism that parallels his lifelong relationship with music, Carlos Santana is as much an exemplary world citizen as a global music icon.

Carlos Santana's current project is Supernatural Santana: A Trip Through The Hits, a musical retrospective created exclusively for the new Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.  Santana will be the first act to hold a residency at the spectacular, newly-expanded venue, and the band will perform 72 times at the Joint over the course of 2009 and 2010. The show, produced by AEG live and debuting in May '09, includes Santana numbers ranging from "Jingo"—the group's first-ever charting single—and early classics including  "Black Magic Woman" and "Oye Como Va" through the Supernatural "Smooth" years and the group's most recent hit, 2008's "Into the Night."

Carlos' influence and idealism is also felt in the groundbreaking new project Architects of a New Dawn, a multi-platform media enterprise and social network designed to empower like-minded people from all walks of life to create positive change in the global community. The project grew out of a vision Carlos has been developing for almost 20 years to engage his worldwide audience with extraordinary music, progressive media content and transformational ideas. It is all in the service of building—architecting—a new reality for the planet based on inspiration, creativity, love and forgiveness.

Santana's star arrived in the era-defining late '60s San Francisco Bay area music scene with historic shows at the Fillmore and other venues. They emerged onto the global stage with an epic set at Woodstock '69, the same year that their self-titled debut LP came out. Introducing Santana's first Top 10 hit, "Evil Ways," the disc stayed on Billboard's album chart for 2 years, and was soon followed by two more classics - and Billboard #1 albums - Abraxas and Santana III.

Forty years and as many albums later, Santana has sold more than 90 million records and reached over 100 million fans at concerts around the globe.  To date, Santana has won ten GRAMMY® Awards and two Latin GRAMMYs.  Among them are a bevy for 1999's Supernatural—which has sold more than 26 million copies worldwide—including GRAMMYs  for Album of the Year and Record of the Year for "Smooth."  In 1998, the group was ushered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, whose web page on their induction notes, "Guitarist Carlos Santana is one of rock's true virtuosos and guiding lights." Among many other honors, Carlos Santana has also been cited by Rolling Stone as #15 on their list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time," and #90 on their 2005 survey of the "100 Greatest Artists Of All Time."

Most recently, Carlos Santana is the recipient of the Billboard Latin Music Awards' 2009 Lifetime Achievement honor (he also received Billboard's Century Award in 1996), and the music of Santana has been celebrated with two album retrospectives.  Multi-Dimensional Warrior (Columbia/Arista/Legacy, 2008) is a career-spanning 2-CD anthology presenting 28 selections hand-picked by Carlos, who calls the project, "a love letter to the fans." Divided between tracks with vocals and instrumental compositions, it emphasizes album cuts and personal favorites that evoke the band's hypnotic musical power and give deeper insight into its complex creative journey. The set follows up 2007's Ultimate Santana, the only single-disc collection uniting hits from the group's recent albums for Arista and classics from their Columbia years.

As profound as his artistic legacy is Carlos' dedication to humanitarian work.  His Milagro Foundation, originally established by Carlos and Deborah Santana in 1998, has granted more than three million dollars to non-profit programs supporting underserved children and youth in the areas of arts, education and health. Milagro means "miracle," and the image of children as divine miracles of light and hope - as gifts to our lives - is the inspiration behind its name.

by CuteCajun on 5/4/11The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Just as I read him say, he truly plays because he enjoys it. Over 2 and a half hours of great music, super talent including his wife on the drums!

    Closing Night The Joint

by Santana2 on 5/4/11The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las Vegas

This was an excellent show, extended beyond the 2 hour usual concert Carlos puts out to a full 3 hour show. Carlos was awesome as usual and then some!! The energy was all there for all the players. It was a treat to see Cindy Blackman come out and join the band on Corazon Espinado and then jam with Benny! I had missed Orianthi who played a couple of night before with them but the closing celebration made up for that. With the extended concert, confeti and balloons thrown down on the crowd also made it special. The band was handed pie's to throw at each other and at one point Carlos threw one out to the crowd. The only sad note to play is that Chester Thompson has either taken an extended vacation or has retired. Hopefully he will be back soon!! All around a classic show to remember for years to come!

    Santana - Hard Rock LV

by fz670 on 5/4/11The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Last show of Santana's run in Vegas. Awesome three hour show that included all the hits. The only negative I have was Santana voicing his political opinions during the show. I payed to hear his music not listen to his political viewas.

by AUDIOMIXER on 5/4/11The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las Vegas

The mix was awful, the audio mixer should learn how to balance the music, was he even awake.I felt like going back to to board and give him a hand since I mix music for a living. Couldn't hear one of the singers(even when Carlos sang into his mic) and the other one was so distorted it hurt to listen to him(made him seem like a bad singer which he isn't). WHAT WAS THE FIRST SONG they played, was this to test out the amps and speakers. We enjoyed some of the orig. songs by Santana but thought they fell short on a few. We also thought that 4 drum solos were too much, how about only 2, came here to listen to the songs not just one band member.

Carlos was amazing. So was his band. The guys doing the vocals could have been better but overall it is a great show. My kids in their 20's loved it and so did we. He is so genuine.

    Excellent Show!

by macbry on 5/3/11The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Santana and his band were in fine form Friday night at the Joint! His band is like a family (his wife played a MEAN drum solo!) and he gives the feeling of being at a gathering of family and friends. And to hear him play a couple of hard rock tunes (AC/DC and Cream) just blew me away, the icing on the cake!!

3 hours of dancing, singing and all-around LOVE FEST!!! Music was crisp and latin jazz beat was so so fun - impossible to stay in your chair. The soul cannot take in so much love and sit still when Santana is playing. BEST CONCERT I have ever been to!!!! Oh my god I hope Santana continues performing concerts for many more years to come.

    Santana's still got it!

by FnnyGy on 5/3/11The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las Vegas

After over 40 years of playing, one would suspect Carlos Santana and his gang would just phone it in, but the show we saw was aces from top to bottom. Santana himself is the cleanest player out there. Every note is crisp. He's a master at what he does and doesn't have to show off to prove how good he is. The show was, indeed, a journey through the hits. He served up every favorite of ours and then some. The show itself was over two hours long and worth every penny. His back up band is fantastic! This one was well worth the money.

    A sensory feast!

by linwins on 5/3/11The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las Vegas

This was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. First of all, the venue is perfect. Carlos was amazingly wonderful and he shared his love generously. I even enjoyed the pies in the faces, because it just looked like they were having fun. The best part though was the incredible music and the movies and pictures accompanying each song. Can't say enough. I will be back to this place.

Can you say Carlos the Virtuoso!

by lilredheadlv on 5/3/11The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las Vegas

I was lucky enough to see Santana 4 times at the Joint and always sat in the middle section within the first 5 rows. What a great venue. The show was incredible! Carlos was engaging, energetic, and looked so happy! and the Band awesome as always! I only sat down for one song! I hope there is a DVD of this show and I'm already dreaming he comes back to the Joint!

by wag00 on 5/3/11The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Started playing and 8:15 and finished just after 11. Remarkable talent, great sound, nice venue, well worth the price. Truly an artist that has gotten better with age....simply amazing. The band as a whole was very talented and seemed to have a great time.
