About

Delivered with a level of passion and soul equal to the legendary sonic charge of his guitar, the sound of Carlos Santana is one of the world's best-known musical signatures. For more than four decades - from Santana's earliest days as a groundbreaking Afro-Latin-blues-rock fusion outfit in San Francisco - Carlos has been the visionary force behind artistry that transcends musical genres, generational, cultural and geographical boundaries.

Long before the category now known as "world music" was named, Santana's ever-evolving sound has always been ahead of its time in its universal appeal, and today registers as ideally in sync with the 21st century's pan-cultural landscape. And, with a dedication to humanitarian outreach and social activism that parallels his lifelong relationship with music, Carlos Santana is as much an exemplary world citizen as a global music icon.

Carlos Santana's current project is Supernatural Santana: A Trip Through The Hits, a musical retrospective created exclusively for the new Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.  Santana will be the first act to hold a residency at the spectacular, newly-expanded venue, and the band will perform 72 times at the Joint over the course of 2009 and 2010. The show, produced by AEG live and debuting in May '09, includes Santana numbers ranging from "Jingo"—the group's first-ever charting single—and early classics including  "Black Magic Woman" and "Oye Como Va" through the Supernatural "Smooth" years and the group's most recent hit, 2008's "Into the Night."

Carlos' influence and idealism is also felt in the groundbreaking new project Architects of a New Dawn, a multi-platform media enterprise and social network designed to empower like-minded people from all walks of life to create positive change in the global community. The project grew out of a vision Carlos has been developing for almost 20 years to engage his worldwide audience with extraordinary music, progressive media content and transformational ideas. It is all in the service of building—architecting—a new reality for the planet based on inspiration, creativity, love and forgiveness.

Santana's star arrived in the era-defining late '60s San Francisco Bay area music scene with historic shows at the Fillmore and other venues. They emerged onto the global stage with an epic set at Woodstock '69, the same year that their self-titled debut LP came out. Introducing Santana's first Top 10 hit, "Evil Ways," the disc stayed on Billboard's album chart for 2 years, and was soon followed by two more classics - and Billboard #1 albums - Abraxas and Santana III.

Forty years and as many albums later, Santana has sold more than 90 million records and reached over 100 million fans at concerts around the globe.  To date, Santana has won ten GRAMMY® Awards and two Latin GRAMMYs.  Among them are a bevy for 1999's Supernatural—which has sold more than 26 million copies worldwide—including GRAMMYs  for Album of the Year and Record of the Year for "Smooth."  In 1998, the group was ushered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, whose web page on their induction notes, "Guitarist Carlos Santana is one of rock's true virtuosos and guiding lights." Among many other honors, Carlos Santana has also been cited by Rolling Stone as #15 on their list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time," and #90 on their 2005 survey of the "100 Greatest Artists Of All Time."

Most recently, Carlos Santana is the recipient of the Billboard Latin Music Awards' 2009 Lifetime Achievement honor (he also received Billboard's Century Award in 1996), and the music of Santana has been celebrated with two album retrospectives.  Multi-Dimensional Warrior (Columbia/Arista/Legacy, 2008) is a career-spanning 2-CD anthology presenting 28 selections hand-picked by Carlos, who calls the project, "a love letter to the fans." Divided between tracks with vocals and instrumental compositions, it emphasizes album cuts and personal favorites that evoke the band's hypnotic musical power and give deeper insight into its complex creative journey. The set follows up 2007's Ultimate Santana, the only single-disc collection uniting hits from the group's recent albums for Arista and classics from their Columbia years.

As profound as his artistic legacy is Carlos' dedication to humanitarian work.  His Milagro Foundation, originally established by Carlos and Deborah Santana in 1998, has granted more than three million dollars to non-profit programs supporting underserved children and youth in the areas of arts, education and health. Milagro means "miracle," and the image of children as divine miracles of light and hope - as gifts to our lives - is the inspiration behind its name.

Santana Still Cookin' After All These Years

by KELRobin on 7/13/09The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Santana at Hard Rock Hotel was as good if not better than I remember from following him over the last 40 years . . . he played all the old favorites as well as some more contemporary material. The incredible support musicians add to the show . . . you could tell they all have a great time together and we loved the multimedia show highlighting his career. He changes guitars constantly . . . looks younger than his years . . . amazing legend to witness in person.

    A memorable trip

by milehiq on 7/13/09The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las Vegas

The venue acoustics were great, and the energy is what we have come to expect from the guru Mr.Carlos Santana and band. The seating was a little cramped, especially for the room it takes to "Jump" to the many tunes where you just can not sit still.

Audience was lame, show was great!

by Nathan64 on 7/13/09The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Santana tore it up! I saw the first show of their stay in Vegas. The audience sat with their hands on their laps, I couldn't believe it. If you want to dance, get the GA seats. I was almost thrown out for standing and dancing in my front row balcony seat.

    It's Santana!

by SantanaFan on 7/13/09The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las Vegas

All my life I have always wanted to see Santana but never could and this concert did not let me down. Our seats were about 28 rows from the stage. If you love Santana and have kept up on his life, this concert reflects the man he is today. You will see and hear a lot more at this concert then just music, you will feel the music. I love Santana and loved his solo's, the one thing that could have made this concert a four star for me would have been if Santana had played more solo's. I have a teenage son who is a guitar player and he was in amazed. It was a great concert and a great experience. Don't let this concert go by, if you have the chance to go, make it happen.

Great show by a great showman! Just proves that there are some entertainers with real talent (not media creations) that have staying power! Backed by a fabulous group of musicians.

    Santana was crowded but super!!!

by scdickinson on 7/13/09The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las Vegas

The venue was small but nice. Santana was right on with his presentation of his classics. He really still has it. The problem was there were way too many folding chairs squeezed into the theater compared to the size of the room. It was so bad that when I stood up, I had to bend my knees because of the lack of room between my seat and the seat in front of me. Musically, this was one of the best concerts I have seen in the last couple of years. But the push by promoters to oversell the theater really reduced down the value of the event.

    AMAZING!!!

by LISandi on 7/13/09The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las Vegas

If you are in Vegas and want to see one of the best guitarists - musicians of our time, then seeing Carlos Santana is a must for you. His band pretty much is as good as it gets!!!!! The show was jammed pack with all of Santana's hits. Carlos was also very inspirational in his stories, a very spiritual soul, like me. What talent he has. The Joint was a great place to see him. I sat in the front mezz. with my husband and the show sounded great from there. Don't miss it!!!!!

    Santana rocks!

by Vegas420 on 7/13/09The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Santana is an incredible performer that just gets better and better. His new Supernatural show at the Hard Rock was fantastic. The new Joint is a huge improvement to the crappy old Joint. Great sound replaces the muddy mess of the old venue. Santana and his band rock hard and show their softer side throughout a mix of old and new songs. While I'd prefer more of the older stuff with big jam sessions to showcase the amazing musicians, the overall balance is good. It's Santana, he's the man, what else can you say?

Santana No Need For Political Viewpoint

by Stefano on 7/13/09The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las Vegas

I was very disappointed. I did not pay my hard earned money to attend this concert to hear Santanas political viewpoint. This is not the place and time when most people are over whelmed and distraught with what's going on in America today. For that I felt cheated !!!! As a guitarist he can play like a rock star and is one of the best........but that's where it ended for me! His main vocalists did not due any of his music justice! i would think he'd take more pride in his musical creations than to let these guys add their hip hop flavor to it. In my opinion, don't waste your money!!! He doesn't need it!!!!

    Santana at the Hard Rock

by Bickstar on 7/13/09The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Santana at The Joint was awesome. Sound quality and song selection were superb. The only negative that I found was that the crowd sat in their seats for much of the concert.
