State Games of America - BIG DUD!

by Weifman on 8/15/13GIANT Center - Hershey

We paid for assigned seating and we literally were put up in NOSE-BLEED - top back row with half the stadium empty! If that were not enough, the audio engineers failed to lower the speakers on the jumbo-tran so we couldn't view the screen - speakers blocked our view. This was TERRIBLE! We were too far to see the details with our eyes and the screen was blocked with the hanging speakers that were never turned on and put into position. We could hardly hear anything and we certainly couldn't see the event. What a disappointment!

    Expected so much more!

by FriendfromTexas on 8/9/13GIANT Center - Hershey

The acts chosen for this very special event were horrible. We left right after the first music act began - along with a lot of other people. Our kids were very ready to leave. The magician needed to be for a smaller venue. So disappointed. You should have seen San Diego 2 years ago for this event. I hope Nebraska learns from this mistake.

    Disappointing

by pagymnastmom on 8/9/13GIANT Center - Hershey

After hearing about the opening ceremonies in Sand Diego and Colorado I was excited to attend this event.. This was a disappointing event. The juggler while a good act wasn't appropriate for the venue and his jokes were not appropriate for the age level of the athletes. Additionally the "boy" bands act was not appropriate for the younger athletes (in appropriate song lyrics and crotch grabbing).

    Okay

by Wenrace on 8/9/13GIANT Center - Hershey

Watching the parade of athletes was great! It was so nice to see so many different athletes from across the country coming in representing their state, and thought it was wonderful how every athlete was given an American flag, really gave the State Games the feel of being an Olympic type event! DID NOT expect the juggler to perform for an hour, he was good and we really enjoyed his portion of the show but it went on a bit long. The guys from AJR sounded good, they could have played more than 3 songs in my opinion. I have NO CLUE who the "girl group" was and honestly thought their music was played or rather bleared too loudly (especially for those that had sensory issues), I don't know if they sang or lipsynched, we left during their performance and many had left after the juggler. In a way the show went on too long and I felt that maybe a well known performer or two from the state of Pennsylvania would have been more appropriate.

Everything was great until that boy band started playing. None of us could stand to be in there, their music was horrible. All the people from our area left while they were playing. We don't know if anything else happened after them.

US State Games Opening Ceremony Very Disappointing

    by Paathleteswife2013 on 8/6/13GIANT Center - Hershey

I was very disappointed in the US State Games Opening Ceremony. It took 1 hour & ten minutes for all the athletes to enter the arena. The caldron should have been lit as soon as all the athletes were introduced. The juggler was OK but I was bored after the 1st 15 minutes. Finally after 2 hours I left because I couldn't stay awake anymore, and the caldron still had not been lit. The master of ceremonies was very good, but all in all a total waste of time and money.

    Opening Ceremonies fell flat

by swimmamma on 8/6/13GIANT Center - Hershey

The sound was awful!!! Loud does not make sound quality. It detracted from the whole event. The arena stage was not properly utilized by the talent so that everyone could see the talented artists work. the jumbotron helped but not a lot. The artists should have been instructed to use all sides of the stage.

    opening ceremonies

by wendyfhmom on 8/6/13GIANT Center - Hershey

While this was an event that doesn't usually happen during the Keystone games I would not attend again. The entrance of the athletes was so disorganized that it made the whole event slow. There should have been assigned areas for each state so they weren't figuring it out as they went. By the time they got to the PA athletes I was bored and tired. The professional juggler was good technically but acted so corney that it was unenjoyable.

The volume was all you remember

by Skatesfast on 8/5/13GIANT Center - Hershey

This was unlike any other state games opening ceremony. The entertainment was awful, the magician was still using tricks from the 80's, the kids could not relate to him and the adults had seen it all before. The boy band was self-serving and way too loud! It seemed things would improve once it was announced that 5th Harmony was coming on but it was so incredibly loud, most everyone left.
