Athletes were made to stand in the heat for two hour without access to water or proper restroom facilities. The band was so awful we left.

    First Time Attendee

    by SkatingFan1 on 8/5/13GIANT Center - Hershey

The entrance of the competitors was outstanding. To have that many superior athletes together in a venue like this was overwhelming. Unfortunately, the audio was not up to the task and we in Section 126 were unable to understand much of what was said because of the amplificaton scatter. It was too bad because we would have like to have heard more about the young woman who carried the torch and the young athletes who carried the torch after her. It would have been nice to have had a program to follow along. Overall it was a great experience.

I was surprised at how many people rudely got up and left before the ceremonies ended. By the time Fifth Harmony came out to perform, the 10,000 people in the center was down to about 2000. It was very disheartening for the girls performing. They still gave it their all despite the rudeness of the audience.

Juggler was disappointing. For that big of an event organizers could have come up with something more exciting for young and old. The parade of athletes went too long partly because ushers took too long to seat them...over an hour to get through. You would think that by issuing tickets to all athletes that they would have organized them in seating areas before the event started. Did not look like it from the stands. We walked out and did not watch the whole show. Not worth watching and being stuck in traffic the rest of the evening.

    Memorable

I thought the opening cermonies will be something my family will cherish. We enjoyed the procession of athletes, waving of the American flags. Being from Massachusetts we applauded the Boston strong because like the commentator stated "We are all Boston strong".

Overall good experience. Did really enjoy the parade of athletes. Kids liked that they had the chocolate characters, Statue of Liberty and the Mascots.

    poor entertainment

    by Pathetic2013 on 8/5/13GIANT Center - Hershey

PA being the host state and being responsible opening ceremonies was dissapointing. If you are going to have that large of a crowd of folks from various states you should have a host/master of ceremonies that can grab the crowds attention and get everyone reved up. That didn't happen. The entertainment was geared to a 5 year old. The stadium organizers were great at getting the athletes seated but beyond that I must say I was extremely disappointed.

event was awesome, except for the music

    by quilts1 on 8/5/13GIANT Center - Hershey

the opening event was fantastic, but the music after was not needed, and i was by the HORRIFIED by the amount of american flags that were in the garbage. i hope you would not pass out flags in the future, unless they are some kind of event flags . after the juggler it got boring and the small kids were tired and just wanted to get home. so try to keep it short and sweet. thank you.

Not worthy of State Games Level Venue

    by sk8rdad on 8/5/13GIANT Center - Hershey

No comparison to 2011 San Diego State Games of America. They spent way too much time "thanking everyone" who was even remotely involved. The entertainment was weak. A juggler?? And when the 2nd act came on (ABL?) the stands started emptying out. 2011 State Games in San Diego was a first class act. Paratroopers, fireworks, olympic guest speaker, great entertainment. The athletes were motivated, speakers were inspiring, and the entertainment was awesome. These guys in Hershey were amateurs. The only saving grace was Fifth Harmony - I feel bad for those girls. They had to play to a half empty venue - but they did it with style and grace. They are the only reason this review is rated fair - otherwise it would be poor.
