A Noble Cause!
The Theater at Madison Square Garden - New York
The annual Bob Woodruff Stand Up for Heroes benefit made its first appearance at the Theatre at MSG. Having attended the benefit a few times prior....this was the 7th Year....the annual benefit to raise funds on behalf of wounded hero vets...never fails to bring smiles...laughs...and yes....tears.... for the difference that the monies raised has made in some of the families lives....which are memorialized in taped testimonials shown on the video screens as well as an appearance from a wounded vet hero husband and his wife who have benefited from the Woodruff charities work and funding. Where else on the same bill can you see comedy from John Stewart, Bill Cosby, Jim Gaffigan and Jerry Seinfeld....and get incredible music from Roger Waters and a backing band of 20 or so wounded hero vets....and Bruce Springsteen as a closing act..... Well the Woodruff Foundation pulls it off....year after year. Bravo to the Foundation....and bravo to all those who work so hard.....bravo to those who come out and support this wonderful charity...and bravo to our Servicemen and women that have given and served so that we can be can be safe and maintain our freedom! I look forward to seeing next years slate of performers.....and the venue of choice! As an aside....it was wonderful seeing the new entrance at Chase Plaza at Madison Square Garden......another bravo!

A Great Night for a Great Cause!
Beacon Theatre - New York
We went for BRUCE - who did not disappoint. Love Him! President Clinton opened the show which was more of a fundraiser. Very wealthy audience. They raised quite a bit of money before they auctioned Bruce's guitar for $160,000! Jon Stewart was great and so was Jim Garr...(not sure of his name) Ricky Gervais' humor was tasteless and not funny - don't invite him back. Max Weinberg's band is classy just like he is. It was a small taste of Bruce. He sang Open All Night (with Max's band - it was awesome!) then, Spirit in the Night and acoustic Land of Hope & Dreams. We had first row balcony and our seats were excellent for "cheap" seats! We lucked out. I doubt we'll go again next year, maybe every other...Cheryl from Jersey.

great show for an awesome cause. Gervais, Gaffigan, and Steward were all very funny, and Bruce is always Bruce.

meh, expensive meh.
Beacon Theatre - New York
This is a fund raising auction, not a concert. Tony Bennett's music and wig should be put out to pasture. Bruce did 3 numbers and then they auctioned off his guitar. Lots of money was raised but very little music was made. The comics were stale except for Seinfeld who managed to be funny with bathroom humor. The other two who wanted to talk about aging parents or hitting women were just lame. I really really really wanted to have a good time, and I suspect that the damaged soldiers that they trotted out to fill the front rows did too. Alas this was a corporate party for people with checkbooks to wave. I had anticipated some interaction between the performers but no joy there. I'll let the guys in the suits have all the fun next year.

Bruce, Tony Bennett, Jerry Seinfeld.... what else do you need? Oh - some of our heroes? They were there, too, and it was awesome!

A Great Event All Around!
Beacon Theatre - New York
Lee & Bob Woodruff were great hosts, working great as a team, they were articulate, funny and delivered the appropriate message of charity & hope. The Beacon Theater staff was courteous & professional...we even got to see Bruce Springsteen signing autographs and got in a few pictures! Speaking of Bruce, he brought the house down! He was in a great mood, played 3 songs, one with Patty and told a story and a funny joke. Tony Bennet looked and sounded great also. John Stewart was clever and hilarious and nailed his political jokes with perfect timing around the mid-term elections. Jerry Seinfeld was never funnier...really. He rocked the hose with comedy like Bruce rocked the house with his music!
