Sheila is enjoyable, Sergio is lost.

by Troutguyx7 on 10/16/16NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

Sheila E. showed a wide variety of talent on drums, vocals and guitar as she performed her hits, songs of Prince and others. She was very engaging, had the audience dancing on the stage, and she engaged consistently with the crowd. This was one of the cases where the opening act was unexpectedly better than the main act. Sergio Mendes had a good idea that people would want to revisit the great Brasil 66 sound. Unfortunately, that great sound had softness, beauty and charm. The version at Westbury had shrill singing, no beauty and the inexplicable addition of rap versions of the most famous Brasil 66 hits. Talk about a combo that makes no sense... All in all a disappointment. I understand changing and adapting with the times, but the singing and rap addition made this concert much worse than expected.

    Going Strong at 50

by melcrack on 10/16/16NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

Great show! Sergio at his age is still performing wonderfully. He had a great band and great singers. The last time I saw him was about 40 years ago. I am not happy with his new 'rapping' to some songs, but that's just me. I'm a purest. Definitely see him if he's in town.

    HOT!!!!!!!

by geegjay on 9/16/16Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

Fantastic performance by Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66. Brought back memories of the late sixties and 70s !!! Wanted to just get up and dance! Had great seats 3 rows back from the stage in front of the man himself! Loved the harmony of the ladies singing and the musicians could have played better! Classy music!

    Great but short

Wonderful concert, except it was way too short; only one hour.

Amazing BUT!!!...Too short of a concert!!!

by makua on 9/14/16.Blaisedell Concert Hall - Honolulu

I grew up hearing Sergio in the 70's!!! So when I found out he was coming to Honolulu...I made sure I did everything I can to get a front row seat! Looked forward to seeing him all summer...because I knew how "GREAT" he is with all his accomplishments! And I just love his music through the many years.. The younger generation don't have much of a clue about him etc...and not much of any promotions/advertising made obvious to his coming....so it wasn't a sold out concert like I thought it should! Maybe that's the reason why concert was short!?.. It opened up very casually...and he just started right into the heart of it!...the musicians/singers were just wonderful in everyway...and I was just on 2 clouds above 9 having to experience it all!!!BUT>>>before you got warmed up to get up and groove to his awesome music....it was over!???! :( ...it was just little over an hour!!!...I/we could have wanted more!!!....for the time...the money...and the effort planning to attend his concert etc..... Never the less!!!...in short ...im still so very glad I got a chance to see, hear and be near to that GREAT man with his timeless music....even if it was just a glimpse of a moment and time with him!!! It was all so AMAZING.. BUT...still to short of a concert!

    Carnival? NOT!

by Anonymous on 8/26/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

This was not CARNIVAL! I expected a spectacular display of costume, dance and Brazilian samba. Instead we got 2 hours of slow, mostly un-memorable trip down memory lane that left me feeling like my radio dial got stuck on 103.5 the Kost!

    50 plus years of excitement

by BigBearTed on 8/17/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

What a wonderful evening, Bowl orchestra accompanying, all of these wonderful musicians. The historical references were fantastic. You never really understand other cultures until you see and hear their music and art. This was a teachable night.

Timeless Music of Sergio Mendez & Brasil 66

by Mahinhin on 8/17/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

There was a good 20 minutes intermission after the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra performance. Everybody was wondering why the long wait and there was no announcement made. Then Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 came and started the show. I found their music timeless and iconic! Performance was great, but we thought they could have sang more songs. Fireworks was an added bonus to the show.

Performance was fresh and clear remembering the 50 years of music. The colorful dancers were an added treat.

    sergio mendez

by nacala on 8/17/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

the short first half of the show seemed like "filler". it was very short (less than 30 minutes) and didn't seem to really connect to the rest of the show. enjoyed herb alpert, sergio mendez, and dianne reeves. it would have been alot better if the guest performers performed more than 2 songs each. the fireworks show was very good - as usual.

    Brought back memories

by goatrodeolover on 8/16/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I bought tickets to this show for my parents. They absolutely loved the show! The only complaint they had was at the end of the show, dancers came out dressed in Carnavale costumes and my dad did not want to see how much skin they were showing and had to avert his eyes. Other than that, they thoroughly enjoyed the music!

    Sergio Mendez

by MsNama on 8/16/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

It was exciting to hear and see Sergio Mendez perform with the same sound and exhilaration of the past 50 years. I especially enjoyed the dancers in the brilliant culture dress and routines.

Guest star: Diane Reeves stole the show!!

    by Dennis55 on 8/16/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Sergio Mendez seemed to RUSH through his set... so sad...but guest star Diane Reeves completely stole the show! I wished she would have sung more...I'm totally familiar with her and wish the Bowl would stage a show with her headlining.

Average concert for such a great artist.

by Ashleyluvs on 8/16/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Loved the venue but very dissapointed with Sergio Mendes concert! He didn't performed some of his greatest hits!! had the extra people in his show that really took away time from him performing. I saw youtube the show he did in France and that was top notch! nothing compared with the show he did at The Bowl.
