Sheila is enjoyable, Sergio is lost.
by Troutguyx7 on 10/16/16NYCB Theatre at Westbury - WestburySheila E. showed a wide variety of talent on drums, vocals and guitar as she performed her hits, songs of Prince and others. She was very engaging, had the audience dancing on the stage, and she engaged consistently with the crowd. This was one of the cases where the opening act was unexpectedly better than the main act. Sergio Mendes had a good idea that people would want to revisit the great Brasil 66 sound. Unfortunately, that great sound had softness, beauty and charm. The version at Westbury had shrill singing, no beauty and the inexplicable addition of rap versions of the most famous Brasil 66 hits. Talk about a combo that makes no sense... All in all a disappointment. I understand changing and adapting with the times, but the singing and rap addition made this concert much worse than expected.
