Only one complaint. The handicapped parking was way to far away from the stadium. Really surprised about that. Otherwise it was a great time and we all enjoyed the game and stadium

About
Southern Methodist Mustangs at Gerald J. Ford Stadium
The Dallas suburb of University Park, Texas, is home to a team with both historic successes to its name and high hopes for the future. The SMU Mustangs play at Gerald J. Ford Stadium, which opened in 2000 and seats 32,000. The stadium is not named after former President Gerald R. Ford, but for a local banker and SMU booster who donated $20 million toward the cost of building the stadium. They are coached by Daniel "Sonny" Dykes, who previously led Louisiana Tech and Cal to bowl appearances before taking over from Chad Morris after the 2017 season.
SMU Mustangs Football History
Southern Methodist University first fielded a varsity football team in 1915, only four years after the school was founded. The Mustangs soon became a force to be reckoned with in Texas college football and in the Southwest Conference, winning 10 conference championships before its disestablishment in 1995. Halfback Doak Walker won the Heisman Trophy for his hometown Mustangs in 1948, and is the namesake of the Doak Walker Trophy, which honors the nation's top college running back. SMU has claims to three national championships, in 1935, 1981 and 1982, and has been the home of such legendary players as Don Meredith, Raymond Berry, and the one-two backfield combo from the early ‘80s, Eric Dickerson and Craig James.
In 1987, the SMU football program was assessed with a "death penalty" for continued recruiting violations, which led to the cancellation of the 1987 and 1988 seasons. While former SMU great and NFL head coach Forrest Gregg did what he could in rebuilding the program from 1989 to 1990, the Mustangs would not have another winning season until 1996, or another bowl appearance until 2009 under June Jones. SMU eventually regained their foothold under Jones, followed by Morris and Dykes, and spent time in the Western Athletic Conference and Conference USA before joining the American Athletic Conference in 2013. In 2019, the SMU Mustangs came roaring back into the national spotlight, after a 6-0 start including a triple-overtime battle against Tulsa and a victory over archrival TCU in the Battle for the Iron Skillet — their first since 2011.

Rating: 3 out of 5 SMU/TCU
by Alumni75 on 10/6/14Gerald J Ford Stadium - DallasThe personnel were very courteous and concessions were accessible. The worst part was the parking! For those of us who have a handicapped card we need easier, closer parking. We followed the cash only signs and never found that parking. We ended up way down on Mockingbird across 75-about 10 blocks away. Very hard on the legs of older folks.

Rating: 3 out of 5 Heat was unbearable!
by Gogirlxoxo on 9/30/14Gerald J Ford Stadium - DallasThe venue looks great and college football is always fun but the heat in that stadium was unbearable.People around me started leaving before the half for that very reason. We lasted into the start of the 3rd quarter but shouldn't have.Don't go if it is sunny and more than 80 to 85 degrees.
Rating: 4 out of 5 Enjoyed the Football But the PA Music Stank
by Ag78 on 9/23/14Gerald J Ford Stadium - DallasEnjoyed the game. Nice stadium. Great sightlines. The best music I heard came from the Aggie Band. The recorded music played over the PA system mostly consisted of rap-based selections. Give me a break. It got even worse in the fourth quarter when they played a song overflowing with hideous over-the-top Autotune. There were periods of classic heavy metal which had more of a hockey game feel that a football game. The person in charge of the music selection should be reassigned to a role far away from any amplification. One more thing - I was near midfield and the PA system volume was too loud the entire game.
Rating: 4 out of 5 Mustangs vs Aggies
by stangem on 9/23/14Gerald J Ford Stadium - DallasWhile the Mustangs were definitely out-gunned, they gave it a good effort. Injuries and staffing changes were a hindrance, but our team stayed in the game, never giving up. The Bands from both campuses did an outstanding job! In addition, the announcements recognizing the outstanding performances of SMU's many sports teams was commendable. (On a side note, I thought the stadium speakers were too loud, especially handheld mics.) We chose to use the DART, so we had no problems with traffic or parking. Due to hot temperatures, I would like to have seen more cold foods available. Some concessions ran out, and I feel that $4 is too much to charge for a bottle of water.

by SUUZZIEQQ on 9/23/14Gerald J Ford Stadium - DallasThe Campus of SMU is beautiful with a great tailgating atmosphere. I would recommend it to anyone. I just hope the team can get a little better so they can win some games. Go Mustangs!
Rating: 4 out of 5 Vs Texas A&M
by USUrugger on 9/23/14Gerald J Ford Stadium - DallasThis was my second trip to watch the aggies play at SMU. While there were some disrespectful fans (which you will find no matter which fan base you are referring to), all in all a great exprerience.
Rating: 1 out of 5 The weather was horrible and everyone got in free
by Anonymous on 12/10/13Gerald J Ford Stadium - DallasThe weather was horrible and everyone was allowed in free, except those of us that bought our tickets weeks in advance. I think I deserve a refund.
Rating: 2 out of 5 Hard to Stay Awake
by PonyBoy1948 on 11/19/13Gerald J Ford Stadium - DallasIt was a real average game. Both teams are not that good as indicated by their records. Small crowd and about 100 SMU students.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Go Mustangs!
by mustangmom1 on 10/29/13Gerald J Ford Stadium - DallasIt was a great game, high score, win, great stadium, just wish more fans would turn out! Maybe they need to shut down the Boulevarding and serve beer in the stadium?
Rating: 5 out of 5 SMU Football is on the rise for good!
by KevinDelehanty on 10/29/13Gerald J Ford Stadium - DallasThis game was fantastic. June Jones and his coaching staff have turned the SMU football program around and have set things up for a new era of success for SMU. This is one exciting offense. The Run 'n Shoot and The Raid are a deadly combination. Go Mustangs!

Rating: 5 out of 5by Jeffro99 on 9/4/13Gerald J Ford Stadium - Dallas Tech won. If had improve, must have more food and water. Concessions ran out during game. Need more drink vendors so don't have stand in long lines.
Rating: 4 out of 5 Good Venue to watch the game
by TTUGRANT on 9/3/13Gerald J Ford Stadium - DallasGerald J Ford Stadium was a great place to watch the game. The only issues I have are the SMU parking situation- even if you prepaid for a lot- attendants didnt know how to accurately direct you to the correct lot and also it seems that the SMU/Dallas PD didnt know how to handle traffic for a sold out game- and the extremely warm temperature.
