One thing is certain -- Hemsworth has his finger on the pulse of the most avant-garde trends in electronic music, and he's well on his way to becoming the voice of the EDM generation. A ticket to see him perform is a window into the sonic future, and fans lucky enough to catch him play one of his heart-pounding, dance worthy live sets are in for one heck of a ride.
Halifax, Nova Scotia-born Ryan Hemsworth grew up on a steady musical diet consisting of the alternative rock and hip hop blasting from his older brothers' stereos. He learned guitar and played in a band with friends during his teens, but by the time he entered university his interests had shifted to production and DJing. He released his debut EP Cover Yr Shame in 2010, demonstrating a unique genre-smashing sound characterized by sample-heavy hooks. He began reaching out to rappers online, and in 2011 he landed his first production gig for Bay Area-rapper Shady Blaze. The pair's collaborative Distortion LP boosted Hemsworth's profile in hip hop circles, leading to a string of productions for artists like Deniro Farrar, Isaiah Toothtaker, and Sole. In 2013 he released his solo debut album Guilt Trips, a stellar effort that featured artists like Tinashe and Kitty and earned him the 2014 Juno Award for Electronic Album of the Year. Since then Hemsworth has played clubs and venues around the world, and he continues to push the envelope with his electrifying sets on tour.
