Have not but to the Circus in a long time. So much better than I ever remembered. Took a 11 year old, a 9 year old, and a 7 year old. They all were very entertained and did not want it to end.

Ringling Brothers Circus
The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills
Enjoyed the circus, but not the tigers, their were fights that broke out and you could tell the animals hated the whip, it was disturbing, everyone in our row and behind us, said they didn't even need to be in the circus at all, it scared the children.

I have not been to RBBB for probably 20 years, but I've always thought of them as the gold standard. Not so. It is kind of like Disney on Ice. There are several phenomenal acts (tigers, horses, tightrope, swinging trapeze,), but they are interspersed with what I would have to say were the weakest clowns and ringleaders I've ever seen. It seems like they were just really friendly people (think of clowns in a parade that smile and wave and bump into each other and hand out lollipops). They didn't seem particularly skilled. And there is a lot of clowning between acts, so it's very noticeable that they don't have basic circus skills like unicycle or juggling or acrobatics or mime. I really missed a juggling act. I think of that as a basic part of a circus, so I missed that. And there wasn't the European/Asian flair that I'm used to. They dressed up a bunch of Caucasians in pseudo-Hindu garb (think Aladdin but Indian) and had them belly dance around the elephants. Not authentic at all. I would suggest a European circus, preferably Eastern European. Or Cirque du Soleil, but that's not really a traditional circus and is not kid-centered, so it sometimes borders on the burlesque. And this may have been the venue, but the sound was awful. Way too loud to understand what people were saying. And there was no miming, so all the jokes depended on either physical humor or verbal humor. I had to keep leaning over to the kids to explain a joke or to ask if they understood what someone said (they rarely had). Our family cost almost $400 to go, but it was a treat from a relative. I would probably be more upset if it had come out of our budget. Oh, and no Chinese acrobats... I missed those too. I would have said it was worth $20 a ticket. But maybe my expectations are too high?

Bring back the three rings!
The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills
All I have to say is that the new "one" ring circus has nothing on the old three-ring circus. Way too much talking and dancing and not near enough action. The clowns hardly look like clowns anymore! My kids attention was sporadically held and our second row seats turned out to be not so good since most of the action was in the center of the arena and we were at the far end. That wouldn't have been a problem with three rings!

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey: Zing Zang Zoom
The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills
Great time! These are the things families can do to spend time together. I didn't like the fact there was some shows that were showing two acts at a time. The dog show was one of them. Kinda hard to pay attention to everything going on.
