its very rare that a band gets better with age,but that is what they have done..seen them with the crue.and poison..and i was blown away.great band=new fan!!i would see them as main gig!!

I got my 1st Dolls LP in '73 and was too young to go to Max's so when I see them now I feel like I'm 13 somehow- they magically bring me there. I saw them at Irving Plaza and The Chance as well and it gets better each time. This show as heavy with material from the new recording, which should get a Grammy or something. The show is like some kind of communion with the band- just unbelievable. From the other fans I spoke to, the the new guys have been accepted as well, of course- Earl Slick and Jason Hill are excellent players. The Dolls really care about their fans, too, staying to sign every last autograph at their instore. Who does what they do- they open a show with music from Tosca and yet THEY give the flowers to their FANS. Something else. David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain are legends for a reason. Check them out! New York Dolls rock!!!

How can a band that took almost a thirty years hiatus with just two surviving members left be worth your time? Well, with guys like Johansen and Sylvain it's no problem. Throw in Earl Slick and it just sweetens the pot. Add a great intimate venue and a beautiful night in downtown New York and a cheap ticket. What could be better? The show was video taped that night, so if you missed it you'll get a second chance. But this band should be seen live. David Jo is still one of the great voices of rock 'n' roll.. He reeks cool and charm. Sylvain is a madman and a lot of fun to watch. The band was very loose. It seemed more like a party for the locals, then just another stop on a long tour. I'm really glad I didn't miss this show. Don't write off this band because of their age. The Dolls still got a lot of Rockin' to do!

Make Out (daughter's band) was incredible. Kind of a mix of LA vacant pop with Sex Pistols energy. I haven't seen anything like it. Great, short songs, with a key modulation up in almost every one to keep them interesting, all about 2 minutes long. Great energy. NY Dolls were good, too, and David's decades on the stage were obvious as he just exuded the original rock energy from another era. But Make Out left more of an impression. Hey, good genes continue! I sat in the balcony, audience left near the stage. the sound was not great for NY Dolls. I think they lost the snare mic (or forgot about it) for the first half of the NY Dolls set. Sound was great for Make Out, start to finish.

After years of waiting for a show I could get excited about to come around it happened. Wensdays show at Bowery Ballroom was so good I had to go again for Thursdays. Both nights The Dolls delivered From the opening drive of Looking For a Kiss until the last note these pioneers of galm and punk brought back all thoes old feelings of being at a rock show like it was back in the late 70s. Earl Slick who just joined The Dolls for this tour was right on with his axe work like he did on David Bowies tours some years back. Jason Hill the new bassist for The Dolls kept the bottom end tight and in the pocket throughout the show. Brian Delaney who has been with David for years has to be one of the best drummers since the days of Jerry Nolan. Then you add Sylvain Sylvain and David Johansen the true rockstars that just don't exist in music these days and you got true rock n roll. This band should be in The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame and they should have been in a long time ago. Without The New York Dolls half of the bands from the 80s til today would have never made it. The Dolls have influenced more band then anyone else in rock music. MFU a punk band from New York still to this day say they owe everything to The Dolls. This is a lesson in how to play true Rock music real music not the garbage they package and try to shove down our throats today. If anyone has a chance to catch The New York Dolls on this tour or the next this summer with Motley Crue do yourself a favor the new music from the new CD rocks just as hard the old tunes. Thats why I call The New York Dolls The Greatest Show On Earth.

Ok, I'm too young to have seen the Dolls in their original glory, but my itunes play counts of their songs could get me diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and I've seen them a bunch of times in recent years, so I feel confident in saying that they not only still have it, but they have something different in their bag of tricks to show this time around. As always: Johansen shined. New NY Doll Earl slick kicked some serious ass. Sylvain sylvained for the spotlight. In all the band delivered some great new songs, and potent versions of some old standards. I don't know what else to say... The New York Dolls rule!! OH YEAH WAIT something else which was nice about the show: Make Out, the openers were really good! The lead singer Leah Hennessy was a little nervous, and chatty between songs, a little under volume for a few, but she ripped into the microphone for couple numbers, and delivered a range of tunes including saccharine to screaming type stuff. Apparently she's Johansen's stepdaughter, and that's kind of funny, because at times I kinda got the feeling that I was kind of watching a young woman trying on her father's high heels. Really, she affects him a little as a performer and it work, but it's not a girl dancing like a girl: it's a girl dancing like a guy dancing like Tina Turner. Whatever, she's really sexy. And I'm a little bit in love with her now. And seeing her come on to sing and dance with her (step)dad during the Dolls set was really nice. Like a NY xmas special. Johansen just freaking beamed. How cool that must have been for him! Anyway Make Out was a welcome surprise to me, totally not what I was expecting after hearing the thick pop-punky timbre of their guitars, and surveying the stage: the drummer with hair like an emo Mulan, the singer looking like she's bound for a sweet 16, and one of the guitarists dressed like a TNG Trekkie dispatched from central casting (by abbreviation, I implicate myself as a dork, yes I know) - I digress. What a show!

I am a new fan of the New York Dolls, I'm sorry that I missed them all these years. Great show and awesome opening act "Make Out"! My only complaint, late start of show.

David's voice is still spectacular, Sylvian is his showman self, and the new lead guitarist Earl Slick is the real deal! These guys put on a great show - much better and more energetic than what I expected, especially since this is their first show since September and with Earl. This show lost one star because the opener seemed like a high school garage band. The only thing I got out of them was irritation... The singer's dancing was obnoxious, and she came on stage during the Dolls performance - oy.

I have seen David Johnanson solo on the wreckless crazy days.Last night seeing him with an awsome cast of characters ie The Dolls blew me away.Slyvan Slyvans stage showmanship incredible.I can only imagine what it must have been like with the great Johnny Thunders .Im 51 and i was not the oldest ,there was a great cross section of ages Everything about the night was incredible.The majestic is exactly what the name says,a beutiful venue that my parents told me about.Seeing a fine venue survive the years and a tremendous band do the same, well this has to be america.When the performance had ended i walked down Wodward Avenue (which has been reborn)this town has life and iam proud to be a Detroiter
