New York Dolls June 18, 2010

by yimmy on 6/19/10Majestic Theatre - Detroit

The band sounded great. David Johansen sang and performed great. Good onstage banter along with a good mix of songs from their 4 studio albums. Highly recommended if you like a fun rock show!

The New York Dolls were perfect!

by Anonymous on 6/19/10Altar Bar - Pittsburgh

This was an excellent show at a great venue. It was my second time seeing the 'Dolls, but my first time at Altar Bar. The set list was great, and although I love all their songs, I was very happy with the ones they chose to perform. The Altar Bar is a great venue to see a show. It seems like every "seat" in the house is a great vantage point for the show. The "no smoking" policy is great too!

    The Dolls keep getting better!

by bigfrona on 6/17/10Altar Bar - Pittsburgh

This was the fourth time I've seen the New York Dolls since their reincarnation five years ago. Like a fine wine these guys just keep getting better. David Jo has still got it! The band is so tight, they just feed off of each other like bands who have been together many, many years. The coolest thing is that these guys are really having fun, and enjoy each others company and you just can't fake that. It was in such a neat venue, a former catholic church, with all the stained glass and crosses and stuff.

    All Dolled Up

by Gims on 6/17/10Altar Bar - Pittsburgh

The New York Dolls presented an entertaining night of good old fashioned rock and roll. They dished out much of their vintage material along with some of the more recent releases. They were enjoying themselves and put on an energetic performance.

    The Dolls still have it

by irishears on 6/17/10Altar Bar - Pittsburgh

The Dolls were very good. Johansen is very charismatic without trying at all. It just seems to come naturally. The new players are all solid, seasoned vets who know how to rock. The Altar bar is a great venue and our cute waitress was a treat. My only complaint was the lead singer; guitarist of Wizard Bomb was a joke. He tried every rock cliché in the book. He was trying so hard to be cool that it was quickly apparent that he was not. What a self centered dork. He was like a dead serious Jack Black up there. He did everything he could to overshadow the rest of the band. I'm still pissed that I had to watch him for a 50 minutes. It was 47 minutes too long. Too bad, they had a decent sound and a great drummer.

These guys rock. The young blood keeps the band energized and the two original members maintain the authenticity. Definitely not a swan song reunion show.

    New York Dolls Rock Pittsburgh

    by Ronson15132 on 6/17/10Altar Bar - Pittsburgh

Fast and easy: The Dolls Rocked Pittsburgh Last Night! David commanded the stage with strong vocals and interaction with the band. Syl played to the girls and Steve's a fabulous freaking guitarist with a w-i-d-e range of skills. Sammi and the drummer (sorry--I'm forgetting names right now) kept a powerful backbeat. Still half deaf today from being so close to the speakers but worth every bit of discomfort. Catch the Dolls if they come to you!

Solid show. The band gave much love to the audience (esp. Pgh native Sylvain Sylvain and Steve Conte) and Johansen was in true form. I also have a crush on Sami Yaffa, the seemingly talented bassist. I'm not sure that the venue was my favorite, but it worked out pretty well, was accessible, and laid back. All around, VERY happy to have seen one of my favorite bands of all time do it up right.
