About

LAURYN HILL IN CONCERT:

As a member of the Fugees and a decorated solo artist, the legendary Ms. Lauryn Hill broke new ground for female artists in hip hop, becoming one of the most dominant musical figures of the '90s and the first hip-hop artist to take home a Grammy for Album of the Year. With new material and a critically-acclaimed tour in 2013, Hill proved she hasn't lost her edge – or her voice – taking the stage with a full backing band and breathing new life into her catalog of hits with updated arrangements, extensive improvisation, and dramatic readings of her socially conscious verses.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Do not sleep on Lauryn! She is back. She was on point! This is what music has been missing!"

"The vibe was continuously raised to higher heights. What is quickly apparent is that this is no traditional act – from the beginning a very unique and nostalgic vibe is set through the familiar set list, but against brand new arrangements that drive the classic material head first into the multi-genre-infused present."

"Epic performance by Lauryn Hill. She killed it in every way possible. So happy I was able to be a part of it."

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Hill rose to international fame when the Fugees' seminal 1996 album The Score topped charts around the world, earning a Grammy for her spellbinding cover of Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly." The group’s dissolution in 1997 did nothing to hinder her success – 1998’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, her only solo studio album to date, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, landed a No. 1 single with “Doo Wop (That Thing)”, and took home five Grammys, including Album of the Year. A seasoned performer, Hill continued to impress fans in 2013 with her substance-over-style approach, building excitement for the much-anticipated 2014 release of her sophomore album Letters From Exile.

    Amazing Concert!

It was so bad I walked out

by Ashley on 11/28/23Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia

She was 2.5 hours late. The concert was to start at 7:30 but DJ Reborn (opening act) didn't start until 8:15pm. However things got better when Quest Love came out to DJ for over an hour (and he actually DJ'd which i haven't seen in a while). Ms. Lauryn Hill then came in at 10pm and started out singing "Everything is everything". The live band made it hard to hear her, and I was not a fan of the different song arrangement. I was about to walk out, but then I heard Freeway and he didn't disappoint. She then went into singing the song and that's when I left. Simply put the concert was chaotic. A waste of my money.

She’s an icon.. but won’t be remembered for this concert

by Lolo on 11/28/23Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia

Ms. Lauryn Hill is reportedly almost always late, we get it. She’s an icon. But to be 2 and a half hours late for a RESCHEDULED concert? And to have a DJ that seemed like he was called on THAT night to perform, almost as if it was a squeezed in stalling tactic.. idk I’m happy I got to see her so I can say I did. But other than that, I’ve looked at her totally different from all of this headache of an experience. I wasted money for the first scheduled concert, but this second one wasn’t even worth the real money I slave away working hard for.

by Loni on 11/28/23Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia

This was an experience. Yes there was a wait but, thats to be expected its Ms.Hill when is she not late….. but her voice was amazing she gave you a beautiful discography of music with a like band then the Fugees mixed with special featured artist and beautiful poetry. Would recommend 10/10. We waited 2 hrs but when you get a three hour show I have zero complaints.

    Fun

Lauryn Hill can sing, no lip singing. I find it very entertaining when someone can sing live.

    QuestLove Saves the Day

by Benny on 11/28/23Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia

My favorite part of this show was watching QuestLove mix for an hour before the show. He was a surprise guest saying he was getting his 9th plate (it was Thanksgiving weekend) when he got a call asking if he wanted to spin before the show. The show started with 2 hours of DJs mixing , -but QuestLove is such an artist that he raises the term DJ to higher artistic levels than is often associated with it. He was masterful and combined many musical sources to weave a tapestry. Seeming to have sound issues, pointing at her ears, yelling at people between singing lines was way too distracting for me and ruined Lauryn's presentation. You want to sense the artist is able to convey their craft and with her distractions over what seemed like tech problems she was focused on other things than singing her songs. We sat straight back and the sound was really bad. I heard an iphone recording done in the first row and you could actually hear the band. From our seats I did not hear the horns at all and certainly did not hear any of the violins. It was a muddy bottom bass with her voice drifting in and out. When she brought her son up to sing reggae songs we headed home.

Nothing you could sing too. Sounded just like her Madison Square Garden review.

    Worth the wait

by T Shae on 11/28/23Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia

Words can’t begin to express how awesome this performance was. Lauren came out and did a magnificent performance and when you thought that it couldn’t get any better Wycliff and Pras joined her on stage and set the place in an uproar! Fugees for life!

    Ms. Hill !!

by mh on 11/28/23Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia

Listen, i’ve seen people talking about this concert. Leading up to my concert date, i was nervous to say the least. Lauryn rescheduled our show from October to November, then posts about canceling the rest of her shows besides the Philly show. When I tell you Ms. Lauryn Hill gave us her ALL! She put on a show that i will NEVER forget. Well done Ms. Hill. You must experience this show for yourself in order to judge it, do not take anyones word for it!

    Disappointed

by Juggernaut on 11/28/23Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia

I purchased the tickets as an early Christmas gift for my daughter and quite frankly it was a huge waste of time and money. She started the show 2 1/2 hours late but we stayed to see her preform. Unfortunately what we got was awful. Her arrangements were a loud, disorganized mess, she seemed either incapable or uninterested in singing and she took up a large part of the show introducing her family members who nobody was there to see. It was the worst concert I have ever been to and I’m disappointed that an artist who’s music I really enjoy has such little respect or regard for her fans.

Performer was 2 hours late. Unprofessional and on my dime. Never AGAIN. The show was good but 2 hours late was totally inconsiderate.

    A Epic Night!

by Crystal C. on 11/28/23Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia

Just saw the Philadelphia November 25th show. Fantastic! Superb! Outstanding! If you weren't there you missed an Epic night! Dejays Reborn and Quest Love kept the place rocking. People were dancing to a brilliant mix of music. Ms. Lauryn Hill came on at 10pm. She blew the roof off the house. Her vocals were strong and clearly have more depth than her younger days. She remixed the classic songs of Miseducation and periodically returned to give you a sample of the original version. Her brilliant creative artistry was on full display. Wyclef and the rest of the Fugees came out and reminded you of why they became stars in the industry. Wyclef killed 911. But what they did with Killing Me Softly was masterful. Lauryn Hill should be classed as one of the best female rappers of all time. These artist are all still at the top of their game and understand the significance of being great performers. Add in the local artist that Ms Hill and the Fugees showcased like the Delfonics, the Outsiders and an old school rapper( I don't recall his name) that can take younger rappers to class any day. This show was well put together. People of all ages were there enjoying the night. I went with a niece that is 24 years younger. Clearly the Miseducation is a timeless album. The Fugees should be proud of their place in hip hop. People left happy exclaiming how they had gotten more than their money's worth. Don't make us wait so long to see you in concert again.

    Best Concert Ever

by PaulR on 11/28/23Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia

Was she late? Yes, but so what, Questlove killed it for an hour+ Then Lauryn, her son sounding like only a Marley can, then Freeway. Then a full Fugees reunion with ol'school delphonics, then a Wyclef concert. Was my daughter's first big concert and ot was the best concert ever. Thanks Lauryn!

    Ms. Lauryn Hill didn't disappoint

by PhillyGirl on 11/28/23Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia

Mix Master Extraordinaire & Philly naitive Quest Love kicked things off and got the multi-generational crowd totally primed. Mixing old & relatively new across genres as effortlessly as breathing. Ms Lauryn Hill took the stage without delay and spit rhymes like it was yesterday. And although the sound system distorted several tracks, it was clear that she still has range, style, and the power to captivate her fans. Seeing the Fugees, for what may be their last performance here, capped off a very special night. So glad she returned and I was there.

    Amazing worth the wait!

by Sammie on 11/28/23Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia

I've been to several Ms. Hill concerts over the years.....the last time I went before Saturday's show was in AC and I left feeling disappointed, moving on from the past I'm HAPPY to say the show on Saturday was magical, emotional, EPIC, the show was everything I hoped for and so much more. Despite having voice strain, Ms. Hill's voice was perfect, the ageless Ms. Hill was flawless, singing, rapping and dancing like she was still in her 20's. I was so happy for the opportunity to see the Fugees in person on one stage and the special guest was just the icing on the cake, Delfonics, Quest Love, Black Thought, Free way, Ms. Hill's son and his crew were cute! Her band AMAZING..... Thank you Ms. Hill for your authenticity!!! Can't wait to see you again:)
