About

One of the most enduring shows of all time, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT is the irresistible family musical about the trials and triumphs of Joseph, Israel's favorite son. The first collaboration of Andrew Lloyd Webber (Jesus Christ Superstar, Phantom of the Opera, Cats) and Tim Rice (Jesus Christ Superstar, The Lion King), JOSEPH blends pop, country and rock into an uplifting, technicolored story of biblical proportions. Retelling the Biblical story of Joseph, his eleven brothers and the coat of many colors, this magical musical is full of unforgettable songs including Those Canaan Days, Any Dream Will Do and Close Every Door. Broadway and television star Diana DeGarmo and Broadway star Ace Young will head up the cast of the new touring production of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT.

    Lead was weak vocally

    by 5musicaltheatregeeks on 4/8/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This was my family's first time seeing Joseph so we were really excited. We were familiar with some of the main songs so we were excited to hear them sung on stage. We felt that the lead was weak in his portrayal of Joseph. He really didn't show much feeling in his part. However, we really enjoyed the brothers! They were amazing. I was told that the children were omitted from this production. I would have really enjoyed seeing children! We enjoyed it, aside from the weak vocals and portrayal of Joseph. I would recommend it to a friend but warn them that this Joseph is nothing like Donny Osmond's!

    AMAZING!

by covfam on 4/8/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is my favorite musical. I first saw it live at Chanhassen Dinner Theater in Chanhassen, MN (I've seen it twice there, and brilliant both times!), and so was very excited to see the 2014 US Tour. Personally, I found Diana DeGarmo performance as the Narrator to occasionally be a little distracting (quality was occasionally quite nasal, which I did not like). Ace Young did a great job as Joseph, and was very engaging on stage. One element that I thought was particularly nice was the different take on Those Canaan Days, very creative and fun to watch! This was our first visit to the Cadillac Palace, which was absolutely lovely!

    Great singing, disappointing set

    by beano1981 on 4/7/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

We had seen Joseph at our local theater a few times and also have the movie with Donny Osmond. I kept an open mind about a different cast (Diana was wonderful!) and was mostly not disappointed with them. I thought it being an expensive Chicago theater show, the set would be more colorful and professional. I was very disappointed with the finale when Joseph is supposed to come out in his golden carriage. It took us a while to figure out what it was supposed to be though we had seen Joseph before. I understand it is going to be a traveling show but I think there is room to add something to the set. Enjoyed it but wouldn't pay for expensive tickets again.

I was so excited to be able to take my children to one of my favorite Broadways growing up and it definitely met and exceeded my expectations! Everyone loved it from young to old!

    Joseph has been MUCH better

    by LHA48 on 4/5/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This is the third time my husband and I have seen this play. The first was with Donny Osmond that was phenomenal. This production seemed very much like a colleg/high school play. Previous version included a childrens choir, this one did not. The second half was much better than the first half. I strongly suggest they look at prevous productions and see how they can at least match it. Casting - Ace Young did a great job Diana DeGarmo - not impressed with her voice The brothers were all very good The Pharaoh was not understandable, which is a shame, since you need to hear his words to understand his dream.

Interesting new effects and a bit of a twist on the "Donny Osmond" version. Joseph and cast did a fantastic job. Didn't care for the narrators voice, a little too screechy.

An entertaining show, but Ace is no Donny Osmond

by Walris on 4/2/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I am slightly biased, having seen Donny Osmond in the role of Joseph, and it does allow me to provide a comparison. The production itself was visually appealing. Orchestra sounded great. Both Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young have great pitch control of their voices and project their voices well, and although both have great range - especially Diana - they both have a "thin" quality to their tones. Although I saw Donny many years ago, he had a rich, booming quality to his voice that Ace does not have. An example was Close Every Door, which in the Donny version absolutely blew away the house at the end of the first act; Ace's version was nice, but not powerful or moving. I don't want to take anything away from Ace, and if you haven't seen Donny perform it, you wouldn't know the difference, but having seen it done so well, it was a little underwhelming. Otherwise, Ace's acting was genuine and enjoyable, as was his singing. Diana was an excellent Narrator, and the chemistry between real-life husband (Ace) and wife (Diana) was obvious and wonderful. The supporting cast was very strong, especially the brothers. Simeon and Reuben were very believable and funny. Reuben was great in One More Angel in Heaven, while Simeon stole the show in Those Canaan Days. The Pharaoh got many laughs with his Elvis impersonation. Jacob (Joseph's father) was well-played. Joseph Megamix was a little slow to get the audience involved, slower than I would have expected for the end of the show. Definitely a play worth seeing with this cast. It was funny, touching, and moved quickly.

    Always a great show!

by auntietoe on 4/2/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I love Joseph. I saw it probably a good 15 years ago with Donny Osmond. He was awesome. Ahem. Nuff said. So wanted to take my young daughter (7 1/2) and niece (8 1/2). The younger one thought it was too long. The older enjoyed it more. I love the story, the music, the dancing. Diana's voice as the narrarator was incredable! Love her voice, but Ace left a bit to be desired. I tried not to compare him to Donny, and he still fell short. Just not that oomph. Nevertheless, it's a great show. I would still recommend it and would see again with another cast in the future. I have been listening to my copy of Donny singing "Close every door" since the show, if only he would come back!

    Great show ok performance

by starofdavid on 4/2/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Have seen four different productions. Story line is true to orginal Headliners average at best ...Voices not strong enough with the exception of the Pharoah...Always like local children in the finally would have given a more upbeat feel ...OK as it was.

    Very Disappointing and cheap production!

by Jachooz on 4/2/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Lets just start by saying I know this show forward and backward and have seen it dozens of times - from high school productions to Broadway and this one, by far, was the worst. The production was super cheap. There were no children in the show. The narrator simply sang out to the audience. There were no back drops and very few props. The part where Joseph tells of his dreams of corn and the stars are film projected onto the sides of the cut out sheep the brothers have. There was no Apache dancer or humor in the parts where its meant to be. The voice of the narrator, Diana DeGarmo was shrill and annoying, She obviously took singing lesson from the Chipmunks. She's such a horrible singer that she didn't even sing " Pharoah's Story" the cast sang it instead. Ace Young did a ok job singing but his voice did not send chills down my spine. He also did not interact with the rest of the cast. He simply sang to the audience while the show went on around him. He wore street gym shoes the entire show with his costume. The brothers and wives singing and harmonies were the best part of the show. Pharoah had a good voice and sounded enough like Elvis to be ok. However her work gold shiny gym shoes that laced up his legs -not blue suede shoes. He even references his "gold suede shoes" in the show. It was pathetic. they also had a scene where the woman were dressed up with big white cloaks and they projected different scenes on this cloaks. It was stupid. The Mega Mix was shortened and Joseph was out the entire time - which kind of defeated its purpose. The show was awful
