I'll admit, I attended this performance under duress. I absolutely DETEST Elliott Hall of Music for its horrible sightlines. Also, most touring companies refuse to use the in-house sound system, which is excellent. I resent paying high prices and being unable to see or hear a production, and thus have refused to attend Broadway shows in this particular venue. "In the Heights" was a completely different experience for me. I don't know if it was the particular seats I had, but I could actually SEE this production (even though, like every other touring company in the world, they had to use a false proscenium because the Elliott stage is so HUGE.)
This show is a total package. From the opening notes, I was sold. The singing, the dancing, the acting, the set, the lighting - everything came together for a thoroughly enjoyable theatrical experience. Did I mention the dancing? Fabulous! It is especially remarkable when I found out that they arrived at the Hall at 2:00 in the afternoon, loaded in the set, did a sound check, and opened the house 90 minutes later. Now that's professional! Would I recommend this to a friend? Absolutely - even at Elliott Hall!
