About

Set in the magical world of La Belle Epoque Paris, where fashion, glamour and passion prevail, Lerner and Loewe’s celebrated musical is a romantic comedy about one young woman's journey to find her true self... and her true love.
Vanessa Hudgens (Disney's High School Musical) leads a sensational cast featuring Corey Cott (Newsies), Tony Award® winner Victoria Clark (Light in the Piazza) and Tony nominees Dee Hoty (Mamma Mia) and Howard McGillin (Phantom of the Opera) in this Tony and Academy Award®-winning musical featuring glorious songs such as “Thank Heaven for Little Girls,” “I Remember It Well” and “The Night They Invented Champagne.” Following its run at the Kennedy Center, this glistening production, with a new book by Heidi Thomas (PBS's "Call the Midwife") and direction by Eric Schaeffer (Follies), brings the city of light to Broadway.

    Enjoyable

We truly enjoyed GiGi. Because of the less than good reviews I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. Loved the costumes and scenery. The music is fantastic and all the actors had excellent voices. We thought it was a very good musical

    Gigi o.k.

by NoahNewYork on 5/29/15Neil Simon Theatre - New York

The musical has great sets, costumes, flow in movement. The young Gigi has charm. But the musical relies too much on the original movie to attract an audience. Someone calculated that the name would always draw a crowd. Therefore, the staging does not have the excitement in characterization it should or could. We merely wait for scene after scene as we remembered in the movie. Especially weak was the transition of Gigi from girl to woman. It happened in costume but it was not convincing with the other characters nor did it engage Gaston, who did not show much character throughout the play anyway. The last quarter of the musical rushed through without engaging the audience. The important scene at Maxime's seemed almost an afterthought. The calculation, I believe, was that the last song would correct all the flatness, but it was not enough to do so. The musical was o.k., but I do not feel the pull to see it again.

    Visually stunning

by Mambajamba on 5/29/15Neil Simon Theatre - New York

The story wasn't quite what I remembered, although my memory could be off, or there may have been some changes. Two voices were outstanding: grandmother and Gaston. The setts were beautiful, and the choreography, particularly the scenes at Maxim's and with the lawyers, were especially good. The colors used in costuming in the larger scenes were very pleasing. Glad I went.

    Great show!

by medmed on 5/28/15Neil Simon Theatre - New York

My college age daughter and I enjoyed the show. Vanessa Hudgens was the draw and she is cast perfectly in the lead role. All of the actors were talented singers and we really enjoyed the music and dancing. The costumes were also gorgeous. Apparently this show has been updated from its original version and it is still old fashioned, but a definite classic. Funny as well as touching! I recommend this show!

by SF25 on 5/26/15Neil Simon Theatre - New York

I thoroughly enjoyed the performance of "Gigi". Every aspect of it was excellent: the costumes, the sets, the lighting effects, the choreography, the voices, the casting and overall talent. I hope the show has a long run, so many other theatergoers can enjoy this very professional and outstanding production!

    Ohhhh the music!

by peggyo1 on 5/26/15Neil Simon Theatre - New York

The play was very good BUT I'm not sure why they made it longer than the movie and added new music. One of the new songs was great but I just didn't see the need to add to an already great play.

    Gigi as a midwest cheerleader

by Howardsway on 5/25/15Neil Simon Theatre - New York

What was this all about ? It was not Paris. It was brassy and frenetic and uninteresting. I saw a much better musical at Dr Zhivago-seriously. Here Gigi was neither interesting as a young girl nor interesting as a young woman. She was way too loud and wasn't a very accomplished singer. But also the producers jazzed up all the songs so ended up sounding thoughout as circus music .

Gigi was not what I expected

by 1luckygrand on 5/21/15Neil Simon Theatre - New York

The costumes, set design, choreography and ensemble actors were all fantastic. Vanessa Hudgens was mis-cast in her lead role. She did not understand the dramatic arc of the play. Her role was to grow from an adolescent into a sensuous young woman. She did not do that at all. In the first act, she was bratty and careless. In the 2nd act, as she donned her gown, she donned a new persona. There was no through line in her characterization. I also did not like that a signature song, "Say a Prayer for me" was given to Mamita. This was a song that was to frame Gigi's growing awareness of the importance of her upcoming evening with Gaston. Instead, it was turned into a mother's lament for her daughter. Too trite! I recommend this show for young audiences and families who will enjoy its Parisian flavor and dual portraits of young and "old" love.

    Gigi an odd tale...

by Donnie72 on 5/20/15Neil Simon Theatre - New York

Gigi was a very successful movie about a girl being groomed as a courtesan. The play has been sanitized but it is still a "nice" musical. The costumes are gorgeous and some of the vocals, such as Victoria Clark and the young man who plays the lead sing beautifully. The actress that pays Gigi looks young and perky but cannot generate much emotion. Why they let women sing "Thank Heaven for Little Girls" was foolish. Having a man sing it is not lecherous at all.
