Gato Barbieri was impressive, his unique sound moves you completely. Masterful and great execution, Gato leaves you wanting more!
The environment and the performance was outstanding!
Great music, food, price, venue....thanks for the latin music.
We have all heard Gato's sax, whether in concert or in an elevator. After more than 50 successful years in the business, his music is everywhere. Yet in concert, he still brings forth new images that capture and transport you as his music did the first time I heard him. I just wish the concert could have gone, and on longer still. If you get a chance to see Gato, take it.
Gato Barbieri is incomparable and words cannot describe his taste, class, and knowledge. Gato is perhaps the last real living genius of his genre. To recommend this show is like saying that is good enough. Just seeing him for one moment is sufficient and fulfilling. The entire show is a miracle.
Nice intimate venue, fantastic show, incredible show for a eighty year musician
The 81 year old Gato Barbieri sounds as great as ever and he's still suave and sexy - as well as the sharpest dresser on any stage! I don't know how that man has so much lung power but he sure as hell took my breath away!!! I hope he tours again very soon! LOVED HIM!!!
I didn't realized how old Gato Barbieri was. He keeps using the same head shot from at least 30 years ago and I keep listening to his music that is at least 20 years old now so I was not enamored by the off key rifs or the fact that started checking his watch less than 30 minutes into the concert. His back-up band is awesome and happy, always smiling, glad to be working with a legend, much less having a job. The food and drinks were delicious but outrageously priced. Six shrimp and grits for $30 and one drink is a minimum of $10, others higher. The service was slow and the chairs had our butts numb by the end of the show. Next time I won't get there when the doors open, won't eat there, and only purchase the required $10 minimum per set. This time I wanted to experience the whole thing but paid a hefty price for it: $97 for two tickets plus $181 for dinner and drinks. Dinner had a required 15% gratuity tacked on, too.
Gato is as great a performer. We have enjoyed his music for what seems like forever but had never been to see him. We were thrilled with the show. The Howard Theatre made it a very pleasurable experience.
