About

In First Wives Club, based on the smash hit 1996 film and Olivia Goldsmith’s bestselling novel, three former college friends reunite to find that they have more in common than their alma mater! Ditched by their respective husbands for younger women, they band together to settle scores with the men who did them wrong. Featuring a new book by Linda Bloodworth-Thomason (Designing Women), known for having created some of popular culture’s most empowered female characters, songs – both original and classic – by Motown legends Holland-Dozier-Holland, and direction by Simon Phillips (Priscilla, Queen of the Desert: The Musical), First Wives Club is a hilarious and inspiring story about friendship at its strongest… and revenge at its sweetest.

    First Wives Club Awesome

by tafrompa on 3/31/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

We had third row middle isle seats, they sang to US! Excellent performance without a doubt. Only one missing song, babababababa "You don't own me". We were waiting to sing with the performers. . .had to sing it with other let down audience members.

    First Wives Club

by Kivett on 3/31/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Although the reviews of the critics were negative for the most part, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. It was great fun and the voices of the main cast were fabulous! Hope it does well on Broadway!

Story was interesting, acting was OK. Not overly exciting. Singing of songs was very good. Actors had very powerful strong voices. Scenery was good. Overall a good play for a night out but not outstanding.

    Needs work

by dcbos on 3/31/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Too long. Could have easily eliminated the fight between the friends. Really added nothing to the story. Actors were great, good voices. Dragged in parts. Also, gay friend a littlee to over the top.

The stars of the show did a great job and have phenomenal pipes. The writing however was so-so. I adore the movie but was hoping for a more original musical version.

The singing was superb, and the dancing was very good. Other than that, the story line was very weak and shallow. The premise that these wronged wives are empowering themselves through revenge rather than moving forward in a positive manner is neither thoughtful nor morally sound. This is a show for those who choose to be entertained by glitzy triviality. Time would have been better spent waiting for Godot.

    ADORABLE!!!

by NYCH on 3/31/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Loved it! Upbeat and entertaining. One question though, an entire scene that was in the playbill was skipped? The Bar-Mitzvah Hall was missing.

Musical was fabulous, actresses and actors were outstanding!! It's one of my best friends and I's favorite movie so the play was fantastic. The only negative thing I'd say is that they didn't sing the most iconic song the movie had which was the last song in the movie of "you don't own me". I heard many women as we were leaving saying they couldn't believe they didn't sing that. Tha was one of the reasons why we were so excited to see it so we could sing that song on the way out. Actually I was singing it all day in hopes of them singing it at the end of the play. Otherwise it was awesome!

    These ladies can sing!!

by brysmo1 on 3/28/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

This was my first time to the Oriental Theatre and I was in awe of the elaborate detailing and beauty of this Historic Theatre. Carmen Cusack, who plays Annie, stood out with both her acting and singing abilities while Morgan Weed, who plays Shelley, was hilarious and spot on. If you liked the movie, you'll love the play. Go see it!

    Unexpectedly good!

by chicagogal7777 on 3/27/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I had read some bad reviews so my expectations were low when I took my mom to see First Wives Club. We were both surprised and delighted by the production! It was engaging and fun - we had a great time! I would definitely reccomend FWC.

    90's F.U.N.

by Sunnyinchicago on 3/27/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Ok...so maybe it was a little short of a Broadway production but the fun was not. It was entertaining throughout with plenty of laughs. Some great characters including the hairdresser...hilarious! Bought the tickets through Hottix the day before and the seats were awesome! A very enjoyable mid-week outing. And my husband liked it, too.

    Great Show!

by SplmnBeauty on 3/26/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I think this was a great show. I wish that "You Don't Own Me" was incorporated in musical. That was my favorite part of the movie and was slightly disappointed that wasn't apart of it. Other than that, I truly enjoyed the musical!

First Wives Club was a must see!!!

by stardom1 on 3/26/15Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The cast was incredible and I hope this play stays in Chicago for a long time. They couldn't have picked a more perfect cast. Faith Prince, Carmen Cusack, Christine Sherrill and Michelle Duffy's voices soared through the roof. Also, loved Patrick Richwood's performance. You may recognize him as he played the bell hop in the movie "Pretty Woman". One word to describe this play is hilarious. They'll have you laughing so hard you will be crying.
