About

Ridiculously funny and bloody awesome! That's what theatregoers from Toronto to NYC and around the world have been saying about the record-breaking musical comedy sensation that takes all the elements of Sam Raimi's cult classic films to make one of the craziest theatrical experiences of all time! The only musical in the world where audiences can sit in the “Splatter Zone” and get drenched from the mayhem, or watch from a save (and dry) distance.

Five college students spend the weekend in an abandoned cabin in the woods and accidentally unleash an evil force that turns them all into demons. It's all up to our hero, Ash, and his trusty chainsaw to save the day. Evil Dead the Musical, has it all - some dismembered limbs, demons telling bad jokes, and catchy tunes (“Look Who’s Evil Now”, “All the Men in My Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons”).

SPLATTER ZONE: Audience members have a "bloody" choice in seating! You can sit in the "Dry Zone" to watch the mayhem or you can sit in the infamous “Splatter Zone!” and get drenched when the blood starts gushing! You will get drenched by stage “blood” and get increasingly wet over the course of the performance (ponchos are available for purchase).

    So much fun

by Robbo75 on 10/14/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This is a perfect production. It's low budget, the acting is fair, the songs are catchy and it's filled with terrible jokes and one-liners. For an Evil Dead fan, this is exactly how it should be done. This is based on a movie acted out by a group of friends with very little theatrical skill. The musical version's acting is much better, but they break the fourth wall at times and really have fun with the characters. It's ridiculous, profane and gory. I loved it. My 9 year old son loved it and, while the song lyrics aren't things I'd allow him to ever say, nothing made me uncomfortable to have him there. We sat in the second row and got drenched in blood. He's been singing "Do the Necronomicon" for days now.

    Evil Dead was sinfully unentertaining

by TheatreRegular on 10/14/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This show was moderately entertaining at the beginning, but it fell apart completely. In the end, there was not a single memorable moment or line. The songs were uninteresting and simply a labored effort. Could not wait for the end so that i could get on my way. Avoid this one like the plague. Ultimately, it just was not entertaining.....

Campy, raunchy, and fun. Went one number too long. Good voices and staging. The blood was ridiculous and wonderful!

great cast truly unique experience if you haven't seen the movies in 25 years (like me), I recommend you review them (do NOT see the re-make) . If you have never seen the movies, definitely see the original (even if not going to the play). A funny unusual experience.

they said cornball humor. they were right.

by rvtec on 10/10/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Very corny humor, but you couldn't help but laugh. Not sure what to think about the splash zone? Lots of F bombs, Think it was the name of one of the songs. Something to do, just don't expect too much.

    Lots of Campy, Kitschy Fun

by TheatreGroupie on 10/8/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This musical was pleasantly distasteful! I'm not a huge fan of the horror genre, nor have I seen the "Evil Dead" movie, but I was entertained throughout, especially when the character of Cheryl was on stage. Loved her -she is a standout - very talented.

    Fun and Entertaining

by JustAGuy1218 on 10/8/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

It was a very good interpretation of the original Evil Dead movie (starring Bruce Campbell) while taking some creative licenses to condense the movie version to fit onto a stage to be performed in front of an audience. The play was raunchier than I expected it would (not in terms of swearing but in terms of a blonde that flounced around to accentuate her breasts, and the mild strip tease when she was attacked by a multitude of demon possessed cast members). The songs were fun, but the sound quality was lacking a little so that the lyrics were hard to make out in the first and last musical numbers. There were a lot of tie-ins with the second movie (which had many more memorable lines) that the audience could have participated in. Such as the type of gun that was purchased from S-mart... and similar quotable phrases. I didn't think that the Splatter Zone was truly necessary and didn't really see a huge value add to the production. I felt it was similar to movie directors tossing something at the camera to justify the use of a 3D camera. Summary: It was enjoyable and fun and worth the cost of the admission. The actors were talented and the casting was very well done. Props and set design was very clever and helped out a lot.

    Left at intermission

by SPDDorf on 10/8/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This was the worst piece that we've seen in years. The characters barely have one dimension, the horror effects were obvious, the actors weren't miked well, so you couldn't hear them. Save your money and see something else.

    Evil Dead was accurately satirical

by ddiv1234 on 10/7/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

The perfect representation of the ridiculousness that is Evil Dead. With all the overly-exaggerated acting and satire, lots of unnecessary puns and sexual innuendos rendered few laughs from true fans... but overall, great show!

    Evil Dead Musical

by Stolorg on 10/7/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This show was great! I have to admit, I didn't know what to expect, but I'm a fan of the original movies (I appreciate them for what they are). A lot of the fun here was seeing the stage adaption to a ridiculous B-rate horror flick. If you haven't seen the movies, I feel like you'll be missing something in the musical. The players did a great job. Loved the characters, sounded great, lots of energy, really kept a smile on my face. Splatter zone was a little over-hyped. It was a fun little gimmick, and I'm glad I got those tickets, but it could have been a little more gory.

Evil Dead the Musical Is a Fun Evening

by Questor1960 on 10/7/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

5 of my friends and I went to see this show. We are all fans of the Evil Dead Movies (and other stupid movies of that type). We sat in the splatter zone (and got SPLATTERED) and had a great time! The show was entertaining (with crude humor) and was true to the feel of the movies. I wish we had seats farther back to see the entire stage at once instead of the first row. We would have missed out on the splattering but would have been able to see more of what was happening on the stage at one time. Front row was too close to get the full effect of all the actors. To be clear: they are not kidding about being splattered in the splatter zone. The splattered guests are not even allowed back into the lobby after the show as we were convered in red gore.
