    A bit boring...

by Ryoo on 1/7/15Apollo Theater - Chicago

My family of four went to the final show. My 5 year old was really confused; my 8 year old was tuning in and out of it, periodically asking if it was almost over; my husband fell asleep; and I was nodding off. The show was creatively produced and well acted, but this Dahl story is better on paper, than on the stage. My kids and I saw Goldilocks and The Three Bears and Hansel & Gretel, The Musical, both of which were far more entertaining.

Awesome show! My 10 yr old daughter loved it and so did I. Would definitely go to another Emerald City play in the future, they never disappoint.

    Cute depction of the story

    by Kaneal73 on 12/31/14Apollo Theater - Chicago

This was a cute rendition of BFG. Sophia and BFG were fantastic. They used puppets to depict the size differences of the people/giants. Clever, although a little difficult for the kids to understand. Show was entertaining. I would see it again.

    Very unique!

    by Jen1234563 on 12/18/14Apollo Theater - Chicago

I heard in another review that they thought this was not for older children, but I brought my 8 and 11 year olds and they really liked it. I thought it was refreshing to go to something so different from the same old stuff we usually see. This was like nothing else I've gone to before. We went as a family and all of us were a bit put off by the puppets. They were distracting and there had to have been a better way to make the Giants seem bigger than her. The puppets were distracting at times, sometimes there were 2 people operating one little puppet. It seemed a bit much and distracting. Overall though, I would recommend this play due to its unique nature and I do think it is good for older kids. Little kids wouldn't even be able to read the book yet, which is why we went in the first place, my kids loved the book. I actually think it might have been a little bit scary for a really young child. It was a dark and "gray" set. Overall, good play!

    BFG (Big Freindly Giant) Play

    by shill00 on 11/4/14Apollo Theater - Chicago

I think the play was better suited to children that are 8 years and under. I brought 5 nine and 10 year olds and I think it was just on the borderline of being too "babyish" for them. I thought that the way the small space was used was very inventive and the actors were great. Most of the kids had already read the book so they knew basically what to expect. Some of the scenes seemed a little disjointed but overall it was a nice presentation.
