    Dirty Blonde

by genkaa on 10/5/09Signature Theatre - Arlington

Was disappointed to learn on our arrival yesterday afternoon that all of the three characters were being performed by the understudies; nevertheless, all three were superb! Enjoyed it tremendously. First time we were able to be in the new theatre, and it is just lovely. We so appreciate having free parking, too. That seems to be a rarity these days.

    "Dirty Blonde" does Mae proud...

by Elfn on 9/23/09Signature Theatre - Arlington

From the stellar performances on the part of all three of the multi-talented peformers, particularly Emily Skinner, to the effectively minimal and well-timed staging, I found the show to be thoroughly enjoyable and filled with heart. The charming modern-day love story between Jo and Charlie was a treat and I learned things about Mae West that I never knew. A wonderful evening of theater.

Dirty Blonde - a must see!

    by buckeye81 on 9/21/09Signature Theatre - Arlington

The way the cast was able to switch back and forth between characters - especially Emily Skinner - she would switch between playing Mae West and Jo, a Mae West devotee. Definitely worth seeing!

    Acting terrific!

by Dblue on 9/20/09Signature Theatre - Arlington

The acting in Dirty Blonde was almost always excellent, but the portrayal of Mae in her 80's was magnificent. That alone was worth the price of admission!

    Interesting evening

    by Mce34 on 9/7/09Signature Theatre - Arlington

Mae West led a very interesting life and "Dirty Blonde" provides an introduction to that for a generation that doesn't know her very well. I'm not sure that I like the notion of coupling a modern story with the historical story of Mae West. Her life was sufficiently interesting to merit greater "exposure" and, while the secondary story had some exciting moments they paled against the life of the true star of the play. The performers were solid throughout and made numerous costume and character changes flawlessly. Negatives? The small venue at the Signature Theater afforded everyone (or nearly everyone) a good seat but the theater should have provided more comfortable seats. For ~$70 and a play without an intermission, having to spend the evening on really poor seats was inexcusable.

    Dirty Blonde - Mae West

    by 72hoya on 9/7/09Signature Theatre - Arlington

This play was excellent! It's 3 cast members, Emily Skinner, Hugh Nees, and J. Fred Shiffman, performed straight for 1 hr. 45 min. without an intermission. The costume changes were seamless. Ms. Skinner did an amazing job capturing the essence of Mae West as the latter aged throughout her career. Her portrayal of an elder Ms. West was especially nuanced. In many ways Mr. Shiffman stole the show. His gesticulations were superb--he hit it out of the park. I would love to see a play in which he starred.

    Dirty Blondes DO have fun!

by TheatreNut on 9/6/09Signature Theatre - Arlington

Always have been fascinated by Mae West — tho not enough to dress the part! Great story (stories, actually), terrific acting and staging. And tho I don't have the urge to don them, the costumes were fantastic — in every way!

    Money wasted

    by shana1 on 9/6/09Signature Theatre - Arlington

Three talented actors wasted on this experiment. Actors were excellent, material poor.

    Emily Skinner was AMAZING!

    by csb1122 on 8/30/09Signature Theatre - Arlington

Dirty Blond was a terrific evening of theatre! Emily SKinner was amazing...a better MAe West than Mae West herself. The other two cast members were very strong as well. THe show is quick moving and over too fast. I believe a MUST SEE.

Acting was superb. These three actors were dynamic in each of the characters they portrayed. Loved it!
