Creighton Bluejays Men's Basketball History

The Creighton University Bluejays of Omaha, Nebraska launched their men’s basketball program in 1911. The team remained independent until 1922, when the Bluejays joined the North Central Conference and immediately won the conference title in their first season under head coach Arthur A. Schabinger. The Bluejays moved to the Missouri Valley Conference for the 1935-36 season and once again won the conference title in their first year. Schabinger’s successor, Eddie Hickey, led the team to their first NCAA tournament during the 1940-41 season. They would appear in the tournament again in 1962 and 1964 under coach Red McManus, finishing in the Sweet Sixteen stage, followed by the same result in 1974

Although Creighton began as an independent program, and have spent the majority of their existence in the Missouri Valley Conference, the team has been a member of the Big East since the 2013-14 season. Under head coach Greg McDermott, the Bluejays have claimed one regular season championship in the Big East, tying for first in the 2019-20 season.

Creighton has ushered several players into the NBA, including Paul Silas, Kevin McKenna, Benoit Benjamin, Kyle Korver and Anthony Tolliver. One of the program’s most decorated alumni is current NBA forward Doug McDermott, who was the consensus national player of the year in 2014 after leading men’s college basketball in scoring during the 2013-14 season. McDermott graduated with the fifth-most points in NCAA Division I men's basketball and currently ranks seventh.

    Great game, bad view.

by Bugsy on 3/5/24CHI Health Center Omaha - Omaha

Our seats sat right behind the guardrail at the top on an entrance tunnel. The metal bars were to high and impeded our view. We either had to duck to look thru the bars or stand up to see over them. All CHI Center would have to do is cut the 6 inches of the top crossbar to see over it. I'm sure it's a safety thing but made for a miserable view.

I went to Creighton vs Marquette. The game was at the CHI Health Center in Omaha. Creighton won 83-82. I would recommend to anyone going. The food was just so so. Seats were good and comfortable. Halftime was a gymnastics group that was excellent.

    Creighton v Iowa St

by BFish4CY on 12/7/21CHI Health Center Omaha - Omaha

the event was great, good atmosphere and the digital tickets work perfectly. Wish the tickets that I purchased would have been marked as a partially obstructed view. I had sect 224 Row E, seats 1&2. the railing was directly in the way and i had to watch the game thought the rails. These seats need to be marked as obstructed, and all others that are similar. I would have purchased other seats if i had known. Go Cyclones

by Giant on 3/8/20CHI Health Center Omaha - Omaha

It was a wonderful game. I was very impressed with Creighton’s poise and great ball handling. They’ll go far in the upcoming NCAA tournament. Way to go, Creighton! Also, a big “congratulations” to the young lady from the Creighton Women’s basketball, who received the honor, “Big East Player of the Year”. Great Job!

    getting in

by chemist on 2/18/20CHI Health Center Omaha - Omaha

We did not realize until the last second that the lot north of the Hilton was pass-only, at least for Creighton games. How are others to know? The screening crew getting into the arena was efficient, courteous, and helpful. Great views even from 200-sections.
